Thanks Nigel, although I don't know why half of them have turned sideways? They are the right way up on my phone??? Nice shirt ? I'll add more pics... if anyone doesn't want their photo displayed, please let me know and I'll take it down (I should have asked first - sorry).

Hi D
No I don't carry the sign a round with me. It was more about my presumption at calling myself a poet and leaving it to others to decide. It is probably getting a bit old now so I should perhaps change the profile picture.
Cheers
Martin

Thanks Taylor & John. And Anya & David for the likes. This one was deliberately poignant as it was about my own childhood. "Sadness with fleeting glimpses of joy" just about sums that up.
Grimstone low is a more blinkered view of the place where I grew up, and I like to see the funny side when writing about there.
Cheers Kevin

Thank you Ray and Hannah. The witch is a potent symbol of female magic and power. That was why powerful men feared them and had them burnt alive as a warning to other women.

Your poetry always excels and bringing all the right ingredients in what you write about and the way that you use words. This helps to draw the reader in as well as having a subtle amount of humour just to add the right amount of spice

Thank you Hannah. If it has strength it is in the feeling, rather than necessarily the detail. Glad it worked for you.
Well Big Sal, there is always a bigger picture, and thanks for touching on that. Of course there must also be hostage taking in some societies, reminding us of security loopholes to be exploited. I suppose somewhere in a poem you might write would be the word Brigands, it seems to fit the picture. I m very pleased this has hit a spot. As a side issue, burial can be deeply respectful or just a place to hide evidence - a thought there perhaps.
Thanks for the likes, Col. Darren and Anya.

Thanks Hannah. I do enjoy these opportunities to try conversational type stuff. Not traditional poetry, but as I said before try anything. Glad you like it! The positivity was a reflection on the ludicrous optimism of some of those early films.
Hi Taylor, lovely to have you reading - i'm glad you found it authentic. I love them too, especially the film noir variety.
Thanks Col. Too kind mate. Always good to see the Ealings, I watched Genevieve recently - not sure if that one was though. One of my faves is The Titfield Thunderbolt - I think that one is. Although my poem was obviously from across the pond.
Becky, thanks for looking in!

Dear Cynthia, Thank you for the warm welcoming words! I love your suggestion of being a giver to become a receiver.
My mother named me, and her love and thought is bonded with my name. Thank you liking it.
Tapashree has Sanskrit roots, and may be interpreted in a few ways. I prefer to believe it means "the soft glow of endurance".
Tapa means endurance.
Shree means Diffusing radiance, beauty, prosperity...
It may also be interpreted as the "beauty of heat" with Tapas (heat) and Shree.

Janey,
This is a masterly piece of work in which you have expressed the thoughts of many. The final stanzas are filled with hope where we need to focus our efforts to stem the tide which you so eloquently portray in the main body of the poem. Well done and well earned. Congratulations

Thank you to all who have read and commented on this poem. Jane and MC you raise interesting ideas worthy of further consideration. Passion can be the instrument of lust which can so easily lead to something heartbreakingly hollow. MC you have hit it on the head.
Thank you again

M.C. Newberry, what you have said here is extremely profound and thought provoking. I think we can all benefit from thinking carefully before we act on any given passionate moment because it can boomerang and be "heartbreakingly hollow" as you say.

This is a powerful evocation of what I imagine was a
youthful encounter with all the power of the momentary
in action. I think we all carry memories of moments that
resonate with us - but wonder if
memories are better than
what may have been the eventual reality?
Is passion but a fashion
That the mind thinks it must follow,
With time gilding the memory
Of something heartbreakingly hollow?

I'll close my own contributions by saying that whilst younger
voters may have been in a majority to vote "remain" among themselves, I wonder just how much of that has been due to youthful passions for travel and ease rather
than proper teaching in schools about the history of this
country and the sacrifices made for the cause of freedom.
Where is that freedom when the primacy of our famous
Parliament takes orders from the likes of today's EU and
our courts have to bow down to foreign judgements?

An intriguing piece with a real inward looking compulsion to it John. Thought provoking and satisfying, leaving little to the imagination. The Wicca movement is supposed to be about nature and the power base of it, I suppose - but wherever human activity turns inwards, the possibilities are endless.
