But from where...?
The theme resonates (certainly for someone like me who
moved many times as a youngster) but the essence was
in the difference between what was left and what was
found.

Applause is due for this Stanley Holloway style monologue -
for style, content and resolution. It is surely "stage" material.

Brian - apropos my comment about emotion elsewhere,
this is an example of the latter at work! Glad you enjoyed
the words. Funny how some come easily while others take
an age to get right. I'm happy to say that this was in the
first category and once the first line came to mind, the rest
followed easily enough. Now I'm working on some "bridge"
lines for an audio recording. This is where the extra effort
comes in!! My admiration for lyricist Sammy Cahn is a
huge source of encouragement. He once observed that
he had put more words into Frank Sinatra's mouth than any
man living. Not a bad way to MAKE a living!!

Many thanks,Don. My next effort is a follow-up entitled “Down Under”.
It looks like The Nick to me, Martin, but not as I remember him. Nevertheless, Jack, “Thanks for the Mammaries”.

HI Martin. Thanks for coming through on this. You are right, it was hard work, as rhyming stuff often is. I'm afraid the subject is a pet one of mine, being so long in the music business and seeing so many years devoted to skills in order just to survive, to see many bedazzled by the bleeding obvious. I won't say i'm bitter, but shall we say ultra aware.
Cheers Ray

Hi Brian - you may be right...although I think that individually many still try to behave responsibly and fairly
towards their fellows. It is likely that the pressures and
expectations today are producing a negative feeling that
things are worse than they are. I am content to live in hope
(from my own local dealings) that is the case. Glad you
enjoyed the trip to the past.

Sometimes we have to go with the flow and wait for some
inspiration to arrive - often from the most unexpected
source, helping to keep us up to speed mentally. To take
up BM's point -
There is a place for a proper discussion/poem about anti-Semitism
but I fear the subject matter has become de rigueur for
many who to use as a means of pushing forward and
maintaining a stance - social or political - that most folk
do not recognise in their own daily lives. If you protest
too much about anything it is likely to be counter-productive and encourage prejudice of the "now what are
they moaning about?" variety - which can apply to other
behaviour in these over-crowded islands. To borrow
from the Bard, it may become a case of "Methinks they doth protest too much". But having said that, it is
certainly a challenge for any poem in mind.

I enjoyed this Mark...including the additions in the comments! It doesn't just apply to England...I believe much of society has lost a little courtesy and class.

Thanks, JC, An appreciative response from any source is
always welcome. I am aware that women love to laugh,
so good luck to Hugh. He deserves his applause.
I'm now working on an audio for this lyric - with slight
additions - in the style of a "stage musical song", but still keeping it simple to stay in the mind...not always easy. ?

In a sense I was putting a case against myself since I am
prone to the effects of emotion. But the theme seemed appropriate to BM's Saturday choice for a poem about
the brain. No further comment from me!!

Brian why are you
Inside watching telly
Were you not aware
It's not good for your belly?
(obviously not)
You should be out the house
Where it's nice and sunny
Makin' sure that Tyson
Don't use it for a dunny
Politics is wastin' time
Not woken up to this?
Corbyn it seems is problematic
Give politics a miss
With Tina, Gina, Tyson
No politics round here
They do whate're I tell them
We all then have a beer
A world of fantasy
No politics to fear
No Corbyn anti-Jewites
No hate Brian, and no tear ?
(PS note the 3-beat verse)

Okay Don, you want a subject to write about?
I'm currently watching a political talk show on which they're discussing anti-semitism in the British Labour Party, by its leader Jeremy Corbyn, and by people in Europe in general. Write about this Don...a straight poem without mentioning Gina, Tina, Froggie, bipolar, or poem construction.
It's a tough assignment Don...think you're up to it?

Remembering that Marilyn Monroe married Arthur Miller,
I read on.
The love for the unattainable has always been a theme to
appeal to our imaginations and this is done with panache -
with that fizzing note of "revenge" to finish on a triumphant final line riposte for what can't be had.

The analogy of trees with the strength of human support
is well chosen. For trees - those life-givers in their own
right - possess the various traits hoped for in our fellows: standing tall, bending with the wind of circumstance,
offering a refuge, comforting company in times of need and never judgemental.
