nice poem particularly like the last image of a recorder...
have you considered possibly removing the 1st stanza altogether as i love the blowing storm image and think it could start the piece off beauitfully.
excellent stuff however.. x

vey nice, jean-lucy.. really enjoyed this - defo has a hymn / song like quality to this in places... it's possibly a little bit too long for my personal taste and the last stanza possibly should be split up, but i enjoyed this...x

Cheers Greg,
I felt a bit like Miss World (only fatter and older) and could quite easily have cried a bit!(cringe)
It's fab though, hell of a confidence boost, great for days like today when I have just this minute received a rejection email from a publisher who got my name wrong!:)

Cynthia, thank you for your comment on 'And Where is Your God?'. It is the first time the phrase 'consummate poetical skill' has been applied to my work and it is praise indeed which I truly appreciate. Thank you for that. I don't read as much as I should on WOL but I will make every effort and reciprocate. Wytchewoode

You have so much to say that deserves to be heard, but, here, IMO, you get a bit wishy-washy by over-emphasis. A person constantly 'bonged on the bean' soon adapts and ceases to notice. I think it is like that with words too: a few, well-chosen and well-placed, have more effect than a barrage which becomes 'white word noise'. And, to be honest, I would shape this more for easier, punchier reading; it almost slips into treatise.

Fast and funny. I like the ambiguity of not quite knowing the significance of the photo used, whether you are 'ooh lala-ing' a child or an adult; or vice versa. It was the use of 'tonight'.

An ode to a plastic petrol bottle or a soiled nappie or a netted seal washed on to our pristine shale, shell and sand! This is brilliant, so unorthodox of topic and lovely of execution that it creates the need to 'rethink' what rubbish actually is. Very clever.
I am aware that you may have used the term 'flotsam' as any article from a shipwreck, which association lends a peculiar potency to the beauty of your words since it could be, literally, a body.

Some deep thoughts here, with some very imaginative expressions. It has an essence of beauty captured in words. Perhaps you could condense a bit and keep this vitality still intact. 'to grieve' - 'to mourn' I can understand the spelling compulsion to link it to 'grave'.
Comment is about Woman of the Flowing Hair (blog)

This has much imaginative charm, particular and elusive by turn. The listing technique of natural visuals sets a clear scenario for the thoughts to follow. It's hard to place the meaning of 'Heaven'(which is not a bad thing) as to whether it's an emotional state or 'a religious idea'. In short, whether or not, you're dead. Such concrete images as 'Stained colour at my feet', 'Crosses unbalanced' are two of many lovely phrases. Check spelling of 'rain-washed' and 'spiral' Probably just typos. One more point: I'd be inclined to leave out punctuation altogether; leave the reader to sort you out. I did not find that which is there all that helpful to understanding, and actually bumpy interruptives. ALL, in my opinion, of course.

This is lovely and juicy and seasonal, Rachel. My favourite lines are "the sun slant through the ruby", "storing bounty up for winter," and "spooning scented jelly." The words ruby and bounty are terrific. Suggested tiny tweaks ... I just wonder if you might consider another word or phrase for "negates"? Sweetens? You could also do away with the definite articles around "carping" and "thorns in fingers," if you wanted to, I reckon. PS The blackberries at the end of our garden are the biggest I've ever seen this year!
