Very good - you nail the pain of being in love and the agony of breakup very, very well. Good stanza at the end with some great metaphor and juxtaposition.

The poem is purposefully evocative and endeavours to cross the state of being mentally ‘lost’ and ‘abandoned’ and also sewing to that the sense of feeling to that part of a dream that cannot be quite brought to mind in the morning but is remembered in brief coloured moments that tantalise and flash .past your ‘minds eye’ for the briefest of moments, never to return.

Cynthia - thank you for your critique You are so right….

I edit and edit and edit again and whilst I encourage all to do this…

I must sometimes get it down and out to be critiqued or it would be put away and never see the light of day, so many of my poems sleep in closed files neatly marked ‘Works in Progress’.

Once again many thanks
Augusta xx.

This is a fine poem, Ann, and, to my understanding, quite biographically accurate. Only last month I read a superb essay about Ms Dickinson which put a strange new slant on her 'manipulative powers', part of which was her passion for 'securing away her work', a kind of 'hide and seek' mentality that she exercised with great 'sexual' skill to be the dominant member of her family and close circle of acquaintances.

Once again, a super poem, wonderfully 'professional' in the purest sense of inventive images and the love of language to develop them. I think your work is outstanding. I have no problem with 'concrete line pictures'; it's very mod and effective.

For the life of me, I don't know why other readers haven't commented. I'm glad Andy has clued in.

Thank you Cynthia - you always make me feel better about stuff I post - am always so nervous about it. I originally wrote it without hyphens but got all those squiggly lines telling me it was wrong - they only disappeared when I put hyphens in - I should have gone with my instincts - American spell checkers - who needs them when they've got a Cynthia? xx

You are so good, so good. This poem is superb in every way, pure beauty. Your metaphors are splendidly original and apt.

Not sure where the hyphens in those pronouns come from; I'd check a grammar book. I find them a bit distracting.

Good Morning Jean Lucy,
I am so pleased that my words struck a chord with you.

I have read your profile with interest and great incredulity... having looked at your profile pic I am very much of the opinion that you have an oil painting in the attic. I am going for a bath in asses milk as soon as I have finished writing.
Once more so many thanks for reading and commenting.

Tee hee - I like this one a lot. Underlining it is the knowledge that for a big chunk of the time you are probably not 'that kind of mother'... Doing something good like baking a cake or making jam massages the guilt away n'est-ce pas? One I can identify with...and beautifully expressed as ever. x

Thanks Greg, I have, on your suggestion tried doing what you said and liked the result lots...though I think I'll stick with negates (although I love the idea of sweetness tying in with the jammy theme)just because I like the shape of it in my mouth when I read it for some reason, the definite articles are definitely better gone!

Thanks Cynthia, I really appreciated the comment, I did mess around with spacing more than usual this time, I had put it on facebook and looking at it, there were loads of line spacings that just didn't make sense...so I changed them before putting them on here, I need to watch that I think.

Thanks for the comment on Jelly Babies :)
Bramble jelly is dead easy, the recipe is pimps, just berries (I used about 3 lbs)normal sugar and the juice of 2 lemons, it did involve some yakky straining through a sieve though to get rid of pips and the odd caterpillar :)
