Very observant typo Don! This I that made that disgraceful error I have updated that now ha ha but the royal flush yeah sounds like Ol charlie on the loo, and I have heard he does have someone to wipe his ass yep true.
But royal flush is a poker term where you have the full suit lined up, the analogy being all countries in the EU being in agreement with us for a deal, well that's what I was trying to say!

Damn! I think we're havin' a right swinging party here on screen. No politics, no demos, no gun lobby, no flip-floppy clowns. We can all hook up again on the 30th for some do-si-do at Jason's birthday.
Put my Aussie mind at rest here Ruth.
Is 'discrace' a more cultured way of saying 'disgrace'? Less gutteral?
Is ol' Boris a discrete way of saying 'lol Boris'
Is a 'royal flush' something to do with the Queens toilet?
Please excuse my ignorance. We're bit uncultured down here......?

True enough Don, we are pampered by convenience nowadays, but honestly, in this instance, I like it. I can share a thought with the other side of the world instantly, that's gotta be pretty amazing hasn't it?

Remember when you wanted to ring someone the other side of the world you had to go to the post office and book the call with the operator, then go into a cubicle? If broke, you could ask for reverse charges. Simple times. But frustrating at times.
And telegram that little baby donny had arrived?... ?

I despair at the continued allowance of guns in your country. It seems no amount of pointless massacres change things. It's so damn obvious what should happen. Of course we know the reason - the powerful gun lobby. It all comes down to politics and greed. When we had our first massacre, guns were banned here. I am so grateful.

Adam, please keep getting carried away. I am impressed that you were able to maintain the speed and rhythm of this poem for that long. That being said, I have a very real fear that the current state of affairs will lead to a greater, more violent incivility. But I have always been a pessimist about these things. We are lucky that Portland didn't blow up last weekend, but the levels of hate and xenophobia, while always there, feel free to come out of the shadows and propagate. When folks are permitted to protest armed to the teeth, the inevitable will occur. I don't mean to bring you down, stay hopeful.
Keep a going!

So true, I have no regrets about growing up in a time before, the internet, mobile phones, CD's, etc. But the fact that I can now talk for free, instantly with friends across the world means I'm also glad of the tech. Great poem.

I really like poetry like this, it has a kind of, "Talking Heads," quality to it, if that reference makes sense, believe me it's a compliment. If you imagine one person talking direct down the camera lense. With the right words, it's extremely powerful, and I'd say these are the right words.

Absolutely brilliant, so many favourite lines but for me the stand outs were, "Eternal optimist, devoid of hope, He’ll hang himsen, if you give him the rope, He thinks he can manage, but just can’t cope, He thinks too much… the bloody dope."
And, "He thought that gas was a solid…. Right until when, He thought he farted, and shit himsen."
There's a lot of wisdom hidden in that there humour!

Thank you for these heartfelt comments, M C Newberry. All power to your pen. And thank you for reminding me that Dickens learned his trade as hack writer, a Parliamentary reporter, a journalist. You remind me that Dickens is another of my comfort blankets...the darker novels, for some reason. Bleak House, Little Dorritt.

And that space in between is where fertile gestation takes place. Giving birth to creativity. A spiritual journey of sorts.

Sorry Ruth. DoRoThY has a habit of grabbing my attention.
I liked this one. When I visited England aged 5 it was great fun threading conkers on string and bashing them together ?
Isn't that what they now call a fizzled computer? A 'conker', derived from Olde English 'conked' out. Still working on hitech meaning of 'acorn' . Neurons conking out on me......

Cynthia - I don't think you need a rest, as Raj suggests. not while you can produce little gems like this. The suffering endured is almost a requirement to produce the descriptive quality of the angst - the circle of creation? Just a thought. Keep going unless your sanity is being tested.

I enjoyed this piece of creative writing for all sorts of reasons Took me right back.
But hey, you didn't mention Connie Whitehead and that Jag that
he was so proud of. Or when Wally "Angel Face" Probyn and Beryl
had it on their toes from the Squad led by DI Forbes that time in Burdett Road and a local lad got in the way of a thrown police truncheon aimed at the escaping Wally, with Beryl shouting "Shoot
'em Wally" as they legged it up Pigott Street. ?
Those were the days, old son! Fair brought a tear to the eye.

How did this piece develop?.
My character, like my poetry, leans to Monty Python. 'Stone the crows' is an expression of shock/amazement I often use. Having seen a MP skit on stoning Christians (?) I thought throwing to the lions would immediate appeal to the producers.
Why did I have to go and do a silly thing and tell them about my 'disabilty'?.....
