Trev's USA Tour 2011

This is it Appalachia here I come

22.04.11 – 79) Day break and I’m on my way to a great American byway

Waterfalls said to be like fountains now I’m driving along the Blue Ridge Mountains

Opened in 1935 a vision for beauty to come alive

To enable people to go asunder to see first hand natures wonder

Looking down at what can be seen trees in the vall...

The drive from Chattanooga to Ashville in rhyme

21.04.11 – 78) It rained again, another thunderstorm

Yet fresh the morning was still warm

Neath the cloudy sky of grey I began my drive again that day

Down the interstate shifting watching the mist through the trees lifting

An accident meant a detour I didn’t feel the least bit sore

Although caught on the hop there was time for...

The drive from Memphis to Chattanooga and when I got there

20.04.11 - 77) The drive to Chattanooga had gone ok

A bit of rain on the way

On arriving of the time I had to take stock

Add another hour on the clock

For they had an extra daylight saving hour

Was it to enjoy the early evening blooms in flower?

So the hour that they did save gave me time to visit Ruby’s Cave

Apparently a tornado hit the outskirts of Memphis during the night, hence the storm and I slept through it, good job it wasn't direct, I wonder where I would have woken up.

20.04.11 - 76) It sounded like thunder crashing

I awoke to see lightening flashing

From my window across the streets rain coming down in sheets

Wind whipping it into a spray soaking everything in its way

19.04.11 - 75) It was called the Land of the Delta Blues

But I wasn’t wearing Blue Suede Shoes

But would I get the same feel

As I walked along Beale

W C Handy looked down on me too

For the music to say thank you

No need for talkin’

In Memphis I was walkin’

Harley surprising feeling the emotion rising

Written at a rest stop on the way to Memphis, I liked the radio station and was inspired to write the poem.

18.04.11 - 73) I was on my way down the interstate highway

Driving with care then heard coming over the air

One of many in this nation a Christian radio station

Listening without fears, at times moved to tears

Then after another mile, I would again smile

18.04.11 - 72) Down the road I go,

Music from my radio

Stations quite a range,

If my mind I change

Listen to music or voice,

Sure is one helluva choice

Listen to what’s on the air,

But always remember, drive with care

16.04.11 - 69) My stint done without refute

makes your journey far to long”

Whether free verse or rhyme

Keep their memory for all time

Now we’re reading the poems we like

At another open mic

Remembrance 1 (Remembering poets no longer with us)

07.04.11 - 17) We put down or names as one would expect

For past members to pay respect

To the open mic in the sky they’ve gone

But their memory we carry on

We read their poems and enthuse

We read their poems, the ones we chose

I found two that seemed just right

And read with all my might

Not written to make you cr...

Registration

07.04.11 - 16) Ruta Maya café is where it starts

Austin’s contribution to the arts

Poet who’s work will inspire

Drawn like moths to a fire

But now there is a wait

The registration forms are late

So we get to know each other better

Or maybe even write a letter

So the programme carried on

As the stage we went upon

Reading our poems we like

At the...

The first gig, written the day after.

07.04.11 - 15)

A pre fest gig at Austin’s South Bar & Grill

It was my first gig I was on the bill

Wild birds in flight

Musical entertainment for the night

We al sat down and ordered our repast

I was surprised when mine came last

Burger, cheese and bacon with salady things

I managed to eat them all bit not the onion rings

Then...

Lost in Austin

06.04.11 - 14) Tonight after what seems like an age

My poems and me will be ion stage

So I took the road that was leading,

To where I would be doing my reading

GPS instructions couldn’t be better

Followed them to the letter

Then back via the road I came along

was when things started to go wrong.

My efforts at driving were in vain

I found myself i...

Arrival and car collection last night

06.04.11 - 13) I’d flown far and went for my car

The woman said “it’s small”,

Lee said “he’s not that tall”

She tried to get me to use something flash

So earning the company some extra cash

But I said “like as not I’ll stick with what I’ve got”

I saw the car and to my surprise

It was like an English family size

So I won’t travel...

Memphis

05.04.11 - 11)

This was where they said there may be tension

Landing with a feeling of apprehension

Which disappeared after a short while

When the staff spoke with a smile

Carried out their duties to the letter

Couldn’t have treated us any better

As way came away

Saying “thank you have a nice day”.

Second flight

05.04.11 - 9) Now aloft in a 767

Upwards towards heaven

Onwards and beyond

My first trip over the pond

In flight movie not so good

In flight system could be a dud

Not a movie to shock us

It was called “Meet the Fokker’s”

They tried to show it once

Still no joy, they tried in vain

Now it’s back on, third time lucky

At least it’s not about a dol...

05.04.11 - 8)

Amsterdam late morning, in Austin day is dawning

Stepped off the plane, to cold wind and rain

Now watching the clock, time to take stock

What has been planned, what is at hand

Security staff checking, don’t want the plane wrecking

Internet suite, sandwiches containing meat

Room for relaxation, room for meditation

Facilities to make your wait better, even somew...

05.04.11 - 7)

They brought the snacks on the refreshment barrow

It didn’t look enough to feed a sparrow

All included in the price

Surprised to find they did taste nice

And a drink to wash them down

Also pleasant no need to frown

If it was a diet I’d be thinner

Now I’m wondering, what’s for dinner?

Trev's USA Tour 2011

06.04.11: Howdy from Texas, the tour started yesterday with the poem below before I even left home one of the nine I wrote before I got there in fact it was written over breakfast following one of natures wake up calls:

05.04.11 - 4)

From my slumber awoken by the rain

Beating a tattoo on my window pain

Not for long it soon ceased

The blowing wind slowly eased

Then on that d...

The Cas' Lad

06.04.11 - 3) Prelude, written after I got there but still the third poem in the collection

The Cas' Lad is now in Austin, he arrived last night

A 17 hours plus journey, over 10 of them in flight

Ready now to give his best

At the Austin Poetry Fest

Where he'll go and say "how do"

And show what English poets can do

More to come once I've got my bearings

Bad News

A dedication, to a friend I had hoped to meet, but it wasn't to be.

04.04.2011 - 2) When I reach the Appalachian Mountain range

It's there my trip will have to change

Cos' a friend e mailed me to say

She won't be home while May

Sadly like many you see

She's a victim of ME

And although there is care

For some it has to be elsewhere

So being an adaptable man

I'll si...

God Bless (or perhaps help) America

My first poem relevant to my 2011 tour, written in anticipation

07.03.2011 - 1) Yes indeed it could be God help the USA

As next month I'll be on my way

Up and beyond, over the pond

Giving my best at the Austin Poetry Fest

Then with Thom my Poetry Brother

To Lamesa for another

After which I'll go on tour,

Dont know what's in store

But hopefully delighting

Many mor...
