Whether full translation or simply inspired by, this piece has shown its colors well.

Illustrated (figuratively speaking) with lush imagery fit for a painting, and very relatable quotes of wisdom line its innards.

Loved this piece, John.

Some nice internal rhymes
To trumpet in the cheese
Which never did arrive
So therefore I must cease ?

Where are my coloured faces gone?
They've turned all black and white
Maybe they're missing cheese too
And want some, for to bite

Hello? They've turned up...must've found some cheese

Huh? Cheese run away?...Wot's going on? WOL's smiley face workers gone on strike?...

Vanessa was the poet that inspired me to become a spoken word poet myself. I shared my tribute with her on Twitter and she said it was ‘wonderful and heartfelt’ and she wished myself and my daughter ‘unapologetic glory’. I’m pretty blown away.

A fair number of WS's darker tales were made into films -
while lighter subjects were seldom used...except perhaps
for "The Taming of The Shrew" (can you imagine THAT being risked today though?).
One of film's all-time top comedies was "Some Like It Hot" -
with everything going for it...great plot and script, top stars (with even a lovely tongue-in-cheek in-joke via Tony
Curtis's impersonation of Cary Grant's famous voice) -
and the most fondly remembered pay-off line in ANY film.
I must check to see what awards it won.

Wow Jon, that is brilliant. Very powerful. Totally deserving to be Poem of the Week.

I think this would be an excellent one to read at an open mic. I’ve been to a few and I’m certain this would go down really well. It’s got a great flow and rhythm and a really strong message. I’m encouraging you to go for it! Lots of people are nervous at poetry open mics but we all feel for each other and it’s very supportive in my experience. It’s nice when you get that instant feedback in the applause.

Very well done.

There seems to be something of a "Hollywood" view of poetry around nowadays. How they love to unburden views
of serious social subjects, triumphing (or gloriously failing) over adversity! It's a tragedy that tragedy should be so
popular!
Ask yourself: how many times has a great comedy film
been nominated for, let alone won, an Oscar? ?

dk I think you in deep trouble
Cos humour it won't go away (as you've admitted)
It creeps into your innermost cavities
And gradually eats you away

If you saw me you'd see my eaten-way symptoms
But don't worry, they help us through strife
I got no worries of being shot at
Cos I'm doomy and gloomy round wife

Accept you're addicted to humour
It's better than addicted to ice
Just keep spreading it round on the WOL site
Make everyone happy and nice ?

Entertaining and a wee bit naughty - thanks!
I recall words from the great American Anglophile, Alan Jay
Lerner, placed in the mouth of Professor Higgins in "My Fair
Lady" -
"Hear a Yorkshireman - or worse,
Hear a Cornishman converse...
I'd rather hear a choir singing flat..."
Yorkies can have a high opinion of themselves - which is maybe just as well when that view can be absent elsewhere.

A fantastic poem Jon!

The power of the mind is amazing and learning to control it is the key to freedom and self healing! Freedom from the chains of society and healing one's pains without drugs.
You've written a great poem on an issue which nearly all people experience at some point in their lives. May we all find the power to free ourselves and live in peace! Personally, I am an advocate of meditation as it has helped me to change my life! Thank you for this poem!!!

Jon,

This poem gives us a lot to think about and probably means different things to different people as it is open to interpretation. The final stanza is one of hope; release from conformity of thought and action whereby the reader realises his own poetential and takes control of his own destiny. Very thought provoking.

Thank you for this,

Keith

Hi David,

Thank you for your comments.

I didn't do it on purpose, but yes a good day to post this. I wrote it a while ago, but finished it yesterday.

Yes, I understand, or try to understand the many, many obstacles people have to good state of mental health.

Humankind as a whole needs to be more aware and more understanding of the complexities surrounding this area.
