Thanks for that Stu. I think that could be the title of another poem 'stinks of hops and regret'
Hope we bump into each other again in the not to distant future.

Hi, Taylor and Anya,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my musings. I have been traveling in Europe for half a year, which tends to switch off one's poetic antenae!
Somehow, whatever the situation, I cannot leave my poetic sensibility.
Cheers,
Chris

Cheers guys! Thanks for the lovely comments as ever.
I'm glad the words seem to spill out for you Graham, I suppose because I write so quickly they have that effect.
Nice to have some time to browse through all the work I have missed on here as well.

A wistful feel to this poem.
The search for the peace and beauty within.
Your writing is always thought provoking, which is how poetry should be.

None of those places are ever located where you think they might be. They are a state of mind and may also be only a fleeting moment. Still worth pursuing though. Nice one Ray!

This was the adorable note my son left for me one weekend breakfast time. It is meaningful on so many levels I can't begin.
I just love the way that his difficulties in spelling and pronunciation of the English "th" has led to "I sink therefore I slam"... which is rather poignantly reminiscent of at least one of my states of mind that is conducive to poetry-writing!

Hiya, actually I posted this photo mainly as explanation for the next one. It was a birthday gift several months ago. It does some things up nicely (although like all mugs it annoys me for being right-handed).

Really special and specular - there seems to be an implication of the violent dislocation of birth and how close to ecstasy is the spirit and how it survives in spite of itself.
A real masterwork. Yes, how do you do this?
Great to get another pearl from you Stu.

Like a slow power surge Peter, a delightful trip into the fanciful and rewarding. Lovely sense of rhythm and romance well rounded and the fruitful culmination, Bingo!
Just for one second I saw Batman taking off, but no, that won't do!

Thanks so much for looking in Stu. I appreciate your comments every time. This is one I pored over and edited a lot , like a jigsaw found some of the pieces had been misplaced. It was gratifying in the end !
I'm well thanks and had a couple of short holidays this year which recharged the old batteries. I hope things are going your way!

Absolutely right in its premise! Photography has proved
itself to be one of the GREAT inventions - from still to
moving image - to capture the imagination and the reality
that would otherwise be lost. Just think how the great
events before its arrival would have connected with our
lives - and what might have been prevented (the murder of the princes in the Tower?), if it had been in use as we know
it today (CCTV) A fascinating thought!
I never knew my Uncle Nick who was killed in the Great War
(1914-1918) but I have his photograph - a good looking
young man, casual in his dress-down army uniform - and
he is alive for me...looking out from that sepia print of a
hundred years ago.

A late friend of mine here is central London was a fervent
supported of the claret and blues (the Hammers) and would
burst into this venerable song at the drop of a club scarf!
Community singing at football matches has long been a
tradition and clubs like West Ham and Liverpool still lead the way towards keeping it alive. The famed US composer
Richard Rodgers was pleasantly surprised when told his
song was a football "anthem" here.

I recall Private Eye did a spoof on this Charles Aznavour
song (referring to him as " 'As enough" which seems to
apply here ha-ha). Pensions are based on contributions -
at least that was my understanding. In that sense, the
number should be reflected in the return.
I always enjoy the "equality" debate - and enjoyed this as
a very skilful dual spoof on both the song and the topic
itself.
P.S. I'm intrigued by the comment addressed to a certain
unseen "Laura". I have my own idea who that might be.
The old song from the movie is a personal favourite and
I trust you'll resist a spoof on its famous haunting lyric!
