Well Becky they say women don't dress to impress men, it's to impress other women...though I think there's an element of vanity/self esteem as well.
Anyway, good piece.

Thank you for listening Marie
It is tough for me to get thru that poem without crying. It took a few takes. I messed up a phrase at the end but at least I made it thru without crying. She was my very best friend.

Way to carry a rhyme all the way to the end. Every line was relevant to the topic and title of the piece. Good, first sample.?

The picture also had me see the skull first, with the ladies
appearing shortly afterwards. Because the reproduction
on my PC screen is somewhat small I would keep an open
mind(?) about the cat and the flowers for reasons of the
size of image and the physical ability available through the
sight of the beholder. Where's my specs?!

I wonder if the current president is a victim of envy and
resentment from the hitherto established political power base who now see themselves usurped by a "popular"
non-political occupant of the highest office who also seems
successful in doing what he said he would do. We should
also bear in mind the close ties between that power base
and the media who like to see themselves as confidants
and conduits for that establishment and its cosy channels
of ambition and advancement. The attacks on Trump can
sometimes remind me of those on Churchill during his
career, both as a maverick out of office and as a prime
minister with his own way of doing things that unsettled,
challenged and annoyed those who were in power with him.

Like the feeling of attending the first day of school and never wanting to be there.
It's hard for kids to come to terms with a failure, but sometimes even harder for the parent to reconcile their expectations and temper them with reality.
You really know how to play the emotions in a piece like a mandolin don't ya Taylor?

You have the delivery of a confident comedian, the unique stage presence of a poet permeating self-acknowledgment, and the talent to make it all happen. Good on you Becky. I didn't even read the poem except for the subtitles on the video, and that was enough to see what you put into it. Not like make-up mind you! Real beauty excavated from caverns that words long forgot.
Beautiful lesson with beauty standards set in reality not wishful thinking.
Great job on this piece, and your performance.?

A tour de force of the female perspective of what it is that
sees us put on a face to meet the world. The content is
considerable and the performance worthy of it.

A moving poem
The tears in our eyes sadly drain,
As the vanity case moves away on the train.

Thanks for the comments Ray. Nice that you always take an interest. It's actually about the trap of loneliness that people can fall into when they get old. They may feel alone and isolated, sometimes because they've outlived their friends and families.

This illusion was drawn at only 18
And brought Gilbert into the light
Some say there's a cat behind flowers
Still don't know if they're wrong, or they're right
His work with animation is interesting
Black silhouettes move on a screen
I don't know anymore 'bout this venture
Or whether it was filmed to be seen ?

Very good Brian ? that line is a bit cheesy I guess.
Actually I’m referring to the loss of local businesses due to the rise of supermarkets, fueled by capitalism.
We might still see the return of paper bags though. I hope so.

Wow Don through WOL you are really expanding my culture. First the BBC archives, now this... That picture is FREAKY. It may because I'm looking at a very small version on my phone, but I ONLY saw the skull at first. It took your poem to tell me to go looking for the rest.

I once watched a documentary (forgot what it was called though) about 4-6 Syrian rebel fighters going about their business and daily lives. By the end of it only 2 of them survived it, and even those 2 perished so said the credits of the film. One of them was a commanding officer, a woman, in charge of a handful of men, some of them mercenaries, and all with the goal to take back a couple besieged towns from government forces.
The woman was blown up off-screen by a rocket-propelled grenade, but her presence was felt through the entirety of the film. Even out of all the foreign men ready to shed their blood for a fight not their own, this one local woman stood headstrong with all the other fighters in her cabinet.
This made me think of that and reminded me of the many women of the armed forces that are never paid proper dues.
Excellent John.?
