Hi Ray,
Thanks for your feedback on The Rhyme Of The Ancient Partygoer-it is one of those where I started off with the idea for its ending and then had to create the lines to get there. It is, indeed, just a story.

It could be set to music . Might suit the banjo - I do play a little! Cheers. Ray.

An excellent choice for a theme for a collection of poetry.
The recent TV programme on those daring and dedicated
young women pilots had me nodding and smiling in
admiration - with the survivors mirroring their young
selves in demeanour and pride in their fraught wartime
occupation. God bless them.
This takes inspiration from John Pudney whose spirit,
I'm sure, will excuse my fond plagiarism in a good
cause.

FOR JENNY

No need to ask her why
Jenny-in-the-sky
She loved the engine sound
Beyond Jenny-on-the-ground.

She sung along aloud
Jenny-in-the-cloud
To dry her grieving tears
And overcome her fears.

Whether flying near or far
Jenny-the-bright-star
Only cared that she succeeded
Delivering planes our freedom needed.

So true for many people today. And I admit I do this myself at times. And I always question why???

Thank you for kind words. And for Huw, I respect your take on the poem, but will politely say you grossly misunderstood.

This poem is directly related to my life and present situation. Yes, some details I do hide from my daughter as she's too young to understand. But I never burden her with my problems. I explain to her the best I can for her age what is going on. I accept my faults and let her know where I messed up so she knows not to do the same. To do better if she is ever in a similar situation.

But even when I fail I don't accept defeat. I'm always looking forward to find a way to overcome it. I was raised that way. I see nothing wrong with it personally. You should never let the world know when you are weak if you can help it. Then you only make yourself vulnerable to more abuse.

With that being said. You really can do anything you set your mind too. But you can't just believe it. You have to work for it. You have to ignore the snide remarks of others. You have to chase your dreams. And with time and dedication you will succeed.

Also, as for the rhyme. I was listening to hip hop when I wrote it. The way I read it is as a rap. No real reason to that, its just the inspiration I had at the time.

First of all there is nothing to say this is a work of fiction or not. Having read your profile I think it might well not be fiction.

The words implicitly convey your love for this child and anyone with sense knows that mothers fight for their children unstintingly.

Young children/babies are all our futures and your commitment to declaring better things for the child is natural.

Critics should look at themselves clearly first and put the stones down.

Never accepting defeat is a grand notion, learning to accept it graciously is equally grand. A point we would all do well to practice.

Well done for posting and use your resilience to keep posting.

Hi Graham, The Net's opened up the world for voyeurs, peeping toms and just about everyone who gets a perverse kick out of getting little glimpses into complete strangers lives and drawing parallels with their own worlds.
I sometimes do it because I'm bored. Or angry. Or just curious about some interesting people, so it really is ambiguous, my reasons why. Thank you so much for reading!

This piece raises an interesting subject about just how much one can find out about people (on the Internet) without really knowing them.

Interestingly, I think reading people's poetry can give enormous insight into different lives (a little like thumbing through someone's music collection).

The stalking, watching, watching, watching in a Zen like state can also mimic the passivity of staring at a computer screen, trance-like.

But do you really care? or are you really saying you don't.

This is truly ambiguous.

A timely and rewarding journey through the seasons
of a lifetime, with autumn the period of harvest plenty
before the threadbare trials of winter - in nature as in our
brief lives in its keeping.

The Cave

Down on Brighton beach
a place so dark
the grey rock hides
what goes on inside.

But if out fishing
and your net empty
sandy bodies will invite
eager for a catch.

Interesting.... It could also be seen as it being a conversation with someone whom the author has an interest in, and wants to make sure that the other individual would be able to handle what's being said without acts or thoughts that are based solely on physical contact, but instead a deep mental stimulation.
