Good Evening Isobel
Thank you so much for your well meant Mmmmm...and implied 'Bang'
yes I must admit to owning succulent lips... however the image is sadly not mine but having said that they are not my first choice of colour...it would play havoc with my high lights.
Once again so many thanks for your comments.

I can't resist a challenge Ray - though I may well fail with this one. I decided that it wasn't desperately important to understand every last thing in here - I enjoyed the general nuances - but on the whole - I do love to understand what's going on in a poet's mind so would appreciate an explanation at some point.
To me the poem is about tables turning - as in power. The male has, in the past, been the carer - the leader. The female, now over her illness, whether metaphorically or literally, is ready to take him on. Perhaps as we age, women do get stronger, find themselves - men get physically weaker - though I wouldn't want to make generalisations. If I am on the right track, your clothes/make-up analogy would seem to be saying that women can take it too far - the euphoria of freedom pushing them beyond equality - setting them up for ridicule even. Male and female are bound together by need (past, present and future). I like the secret joy the woman feels at finally finding herself free to do this - the inner scars are still there - but she has survived...
Then again - this could just be a poem about a woman who used to be ill and now looks forward to her carer being ill. My old dad used to love hearing about former colleagues dying - especially those who had visited him on what they all thought was his death bed. A thought provoking poem for sure.
xx

So, kindly tell us, Ray, what it is about. Heavy going with a reconciliation of sorts? Or lathering lies over anything to hide the truth? Or? Or?
And, Isobel, I didn't pick up the joke right away with the spelling error - and then - a hoot of laughter and 'oh! good grief!' Cute cover-up, but no cigar.

Thanks for the extra interest, Win. Glad you told me, since my email doesn't direct me to the source anymore. 'the little leaf' has since been revised a bit, (not yet posted) to be more directive. How egotistic is it, that I come back to my own work and think, 'I like that' as though I had never written it at all. This is a big confession!

And that is exactly how my mind started to trip along - G&S style, being a former performer in that sphere of mixed idiocy and very fine music. But they were rhythm tartars!

Actually it's quite hard to read.
It's supposed to have the same rhythm as Modern Major General (G & S).
I think I'll have to work on it.

It's not as smooth as your usual stuff, Dave - the length of the lines makes it more difficult, perhaps, and I'd agree with Cynthia about a steadier rhythm. Probably one that you can make sound better than it reads.

Didn't make the Tudor as our youngest daughter Sally is embarking on a round the world trip. They brought a van load of stuff to our house on Thursday.
Emotional times but exciting too.
To compensate I went to Hebden Bridge on Friday to the Jammin with Jefforama thing. Good mix of music and poems. Should be back at Tudor next time.

Yes you could say that! I don't have any fondness for my married name - keep it to be the same as the kids - but I'm not the same person I was before. It is a strange dilemma for women. I've decided not to worry about it until another Isobel joins the site or someone wants to snap me up for publishing - I've a feeling the former may come sooner...
