Like this poem, the way the world swirls around the mother and child.
Nice stuff.

Explain your allusions. what is the familiar smell? A familiar sound, how cold is it? brittle, smarting, deathly etc. Bring it to life for us.

Lucy there are some nice words in this piece, but for me it is spoilt by the overuse of cliches like, home is where the heart is, sight for sore eyes, etc. Say the same thing with better words and the work will improve immeasurably. Welcome to WOL by the way, we all learn form each other here.

Hi Stef - I was going to call it Sucker! In fact I read it today in St Ives and I did call it Sucker! cos Gulled would have given the ending away. But if you've ever been to St Ives you'd know the ending anyway! Those pesky birdies!! xx
And Ta old Crackling - I have heard tell of them there hedgehogs! They also do an ice cream called a FOXY!!! I must admit I did have one of those, just for research purposes you understand! xx

You are a wise old buzzard. Perhaps their husbandry wasn't industrious enough - or they wouldn't have been blasted to planet Mars... I'm not at all that heartless - just realistic. xx

Great poem and thinking through process, love it.... very well done.
have you perhaps considered the fate of these deletions...??
You are no doubt aware that they are not GONE ... they are out there or are they still here??
...an micro electronic scar in orbit of Isobeltronic files and savourings ... and little black book notations ... all this industrious husbandry alighting upon some far distant galaxy.
Once again superb poem.

Hi Cynthia, thank-you for reading and commenting on 'Velvet' - always appreciate it. I think the lid got nailed down some while back, I just can't seem to help scratching at the lining every now & then.
Are you going on the Hebden weekend? I'm really hoping to actually meet you one of these days! :)

Love this one Dave. I take it you`re having a hectic time on your tour!
Reminds me of my India trip, I was on the go all the time and wonderful though it was, it was also one of the most exhausting hols Id ever undertaken.
Hope your having a good time and come back enthused to write more!

Another good one Isobel... clearing out my inbox is not too difficult for me, but clearing out my wardrobe of all those things Im always going to diet back into is another matter altogether!!

Well, the best for last? Bold and brilliant language for an interesting subject. No one is going to challenge your 'manhood'; if it empowers your brains, go for it. But, maybe, that is why the 'lover' of your dreams is no longer with you - too much sex required on a daily basis.

IMO, fantastic. Simple but compelling; the universal quality of dreams involves the reader totally. And the long lines work too, better than breaking them up. Great title.

This is very good, David. The imagery is terrific: a 'smile like a red bag of nails' and 'I want my ideas to eat you' among many - fresh and powerful ideas. I presume the colloquial language is on purpose, for effect. I really love the poem.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The poem is also about the need to live in the real world. Electronic transfer of laughter, emotions or just tittle tattle is a very poor substitute for direct interaction. Without proper human relationships we all become slaves to our inbox and a very unreal world. x
