That's okay, I understand and I wouldn't want anyone missing out on a read of your poem just because it looks like you've got a lot of feedback :) And that makes a lot of sense, it does feel more in character ^^

Thanks for your comment on "Untitled - you bastard". I should have said that this poem is a homage to, and a pastiche of, one by Dermot Glennon called "Untitled" which is far more disturbing than my poor effort and could be regarded as his 'signature poem'. So it's just a bit of fun that anyone who has seen Dermot perform will understand and hopefully have a laugh. I performed it last night and Dermot got it right away but it took the rest of the group about a third of the poem before it dawned on them what it was about and it did cause some merriment.

Hi Greg - I was reminded of your meeting with Carol Ann Duffy yesterday. I was in St Ives and I saw Helen Dunmore - I was brave enough to say "Excuse me, are you Helen Dunmore?" and she said she was. I told her that I love her poetry (which I do). Then afterwards I thought "Oh dear, she might think I don't like her novels!" (I do!) But it was rather nice to say hello to her. Afterwards, I seemed to keep seeing her all around St Ives, but pretended not to have spotted her in case she thought I was stalking her!

This is good, Josh. It is a huge theme which you have tackled head on, with some very cogent ideas and superb vocabulary. I like the format too, with its unobtrusive rhyme scheme. Just being picky...did you try to get the rhyme pattern of the Stanza 1 into Stanzas 2 and 3, but it just wouldn't co-operate? If so,I know the feeling!

I like this, John. I'm not always sure where it's going, but I seem to feel where it's at, if that makes any sense. There are some novel and engaging images. Perhaps all the loose pieces come together with your final two lines, like pulling fish into a net.

This is really good, Thomas, completely absorbing the reader to share the pathos of the emotional desert. Such a sad, and so common, situation. I would include the same .... after the second 'admit' also. I did wonder why you introduced a subplot with 'long after they've gone'. I can't really place the antecedent of 'they'; to what or to whom the pronoun refers. IMO, I think 'The image lingers on' is very emotive in itself. All comments made with great respect for your skill.

Heather, thanks for your input. I don't respond to all comments only because they take so much time, and tend to make any given poem look like it has a lot 'reader feedback' when it doesn't. In "Midnight Gardens" I used 'assignation' to define the type of man; I knew 'affair' was a better 'fit', but it didn't suit him; so I went with 'character clue'.

am writing a piece about fog myself at the moment (although not at sea), so this is in my head at the moment also with lines like 'our vanishing life unfixed, unbridgeable, ebb, flow, neap, tide'
good stuff (am thinking you could have made this a bit longer however)
