A compelling way of describing the vacuum of death and the unresolved issues that affect every one of us. unanswerable on any normal terms. Wouldn't we love to know what's around the corner. Roy Castle the entertainer once said to me : "whatever is coming there's never been any complaints."

Paul's chocolate experience replicates mine. It's amazing how far you have to go to stop them coming back - a mid-price Ryanair flight should do it.
Brilliant poem, by the way.

Thanks Victoria, Jordyn for the likes! ?
And thanks Greg, Shifa and Stephen for your likes, comments and input. Really pleased you enjoyed. I felt like this could have been 3 separate poems but decided to compress all my ideas into one more raggedy one.
Shifa, I'm with you on the endless arguing. I guess I meant 'healthy debate' really (as opposed to name calling).

Sad. So sad Cathy.
Tonight I can write the saddest lines
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

I'm in the process of writing some poetry/lyrics for a new recording I'm doing (music and poetry) that will be the telling of a folklore of my own creation - so please bear with me as I turn my eyes from politics for a bit and concentrate on these other-worldly creatures that will form the basis of the conceptual tale ?

Can't offer any advice on the dolls, but have heard about the potential perils of courgettes. The trick is to try a morsel - if it tastes bitter, chuck the whole thing away. But I'm sure you've learned that the hard way! Entertaining poem, Simon.

Ah, I didn't realise you were using the terms ironically, John. Apologies. I'm glad we agree on our hatred of such terms, although I suspect we hate them for different reasons. I will say that 'woke' slips more easily into a poem than its predecessor, 'political correctness gone mad'. And I hope that is my last word on the subject, and your poem. I'm sure everyone will be glad to hear this.

The words you refer to Greg were used ironically. I cannot stand these meaningless neologisms. They seek to stifle common decency and cancel open debate - that's the point of the poem. The poem is not about an individual, it is about a society that curtails individual freedom and how alienated from that society many people feel. Thanks to Brian, Paul, Nicola and Stephen.

For journalists and politicians it's all about exerting influence and gaining power over the majority of the population. But the majority of the population do not buy into this new-fangled speak such as woke and virtue signal. It turns them off, and until the lefties start talking our language they will not gain the power they seek.
Good poem John, I enjoyed it.
