...and, yet, you know Mika, I cannot run 10 yards, rheumatoid arthritis has destroyed my knees (both replaced) and crippled my fingers (no more guitar, for me)....so, you never know...'as if you have a choice' ?

I won't get into a political/ideological argument with you. One thing I will say is that poetry, music, art can highlight the facts in a way that (say) tory newspapers will not.
This does not alter the fact that your initial comment missed the point - so just to make it clear: £2,000,000 of fireworks, indeed, fell on everyone. It was the homeless who would suffer most by that money not being spent on them. So, as with rainfall, it rained on everyone and everyone got wet. Some people suffered that wetness more than others. Not political - FACT.
I don't explain my poems normally - in this case I feel I had to ?

Ian, homelessness is a disgrace in a country as wealthy as the UK. Politics can solve it, not poetry. Unfortunately the party best equipped to solve it did not appeal to the demographic most at risk of homelessness...because they failed to represent their core vote's wishes. How mad is that?

It is about the homeless - and my comments are still valid about your challenge to that line - is there any wonder so many poems are about the homeless these days? As a good friend of mine is wont to say 'we fight until they lose'.

Sorry Ian, perhaps I jumped to a conclusion that your poem was about the homeless. So many are these days.

thanx for the kind comments.
Brian - I think you may have had a point if the line had been 'fall only on lost souls in doorways' otherwise your comment supports the line as it is as lost souls are a sub-group of everyone ?

It's about someone I worked with once.
He literally couldn't turn left. Clocking out was ok because the clock machine was on his right, but to clock in he turned 270 degrees to the right because he couldn't turn left.
Cheers Kevin

The Aussies cannot turn their back on the tourists money. NYE is an incredible experience in Sydney that I have been lucky enough to experience. It takes so long to organise it would be impossible to stop the night and foolish too. The waterfront businesses, shops, restaurants, bars and boat trips would lose millions! Get over it and look forward. Spend more money on early cool season burning (which didn't happen this year) to reduce the impact of the dry season. Saving a buck here and there is short-sighted. Lose the semantics and manage the land properly!
There, that should put a smile on your face Don, a pommie telling you what to do for a change!
Happy New Yer to al my Aussie mates (believe it or not there are quite a few).

Jasmine, Po you see's a rhymer
(Ushered in some prose)
Easy, simple stuff to do
All done, there ya goes....
Rhyme on other hand Jasmine, is a very skilled art. Takes years and lotsa practice to reach our skill level (wouldn't you agree Po?) We are highly regarded and sought after on WOL, ....despite never having won poem of the week........such is life

I am surprised no-one has commented on this.
Sadly, greed rules the world.
I feel we maybe were born with a greed gene. Science should now be able to cut this out? Problem - Many rich people base their lifestyle on greed. Trump would not want his greed gene removed and taken away from his future progeny. He donates heaps of cash to greed-gene research. Big business for greed-gene investment these days.....

I appreciated the link John. Thankyou. If I can borrow one of the comments:
'Both blazing meteors in a world of mediocrity'
Its a bit like eccentrics. In UK they are treasured. In Aus eccentrics and tall poppies are flattened. I'm living in the wrong country.
Oh BTW Bert, having nothing to do, and only 5 fingers to help him, came up with 2 for 1s and the same for 2s.. Ethel, having done a bit of Googling on atomic energy levels told him he was correct. If he had persisted with 2p 6 would have been correct. Ethel is now teaching him to increase his mathematical ability by using a 6th finger.
Which hand is that on Eth?......right or left)......
