Yep, that's the only way to write, in whatever style works for you. I wish I could do more humourous stuff, face to face I'm a funny guy, it's just that:
A) My sense of humour is extremely dark most of the time,
And B) It never seems to appear when I start typing.
Probably for the best in my case, as I say I do have a very dark sense of humour.

Thanks Ruth, I think the dragon of chaos is a pretty accurate metaphor for really violent, angry storms, the roaring of thunder and the sudden and immense power of lightning often puts me in mind of a huge angry dragon just ripping up the sky.

I can't decide what I enjoyed more, the conversation in the comment section or the poem itself! Great word Adam. I think swallows is a safe, reassuring choice when talking about separations. It leaves an aftertaste of hope, or wishful thinking that the parting is fickle! You want to send your kids out to the world, but I bet you'll miss them! I used the same bird in a different scenario...in mine the parting was more definite, nothing like the life affirming feeling of a life beginning, rather the opposite. Still the picture of swallows appeased the pain that comes with separation. That we may see each other again!?

I stopped smoking cigarettes 40 years ago and have saved myself more than £100,000 in real terms (really...work it out at £50 per week).

My friend's Dad smoked a pipe. We couldn't stand up for laughing when his wife said she loved a good shag (really said...no kidding).

Never been a smoker Ray although most of my family were at once stage. Athletics saved me. However, there was always something about pipe smokers that had an over-arching allure. The fact that this piece of polished wood remained after the event (unlike cigarettes) to bear witness to and provide a souvenir of the aromas, always seemed a little special.
