To clothe the naked
has relevance,
in most cases
it makes good sense.

It's not often that you can smell a poem but this one reeks! So evocative of its setting it stings the nose. Very accomplished work Alan.

Thanks for the kind comments as always guys. We had fun with this theme, didn't we? I nearly didn't make it - stayed up too late the night before trying to finish researching it. So maybe a few rhymes are a little contrived...

I hope you'll give another open mic night a try somewhere, Alan. First impressions can be deceptive, particularly if you don't know many people there. Many open mics down our way in t'south are dominated by older people, rather than youngsters. And here comes the plug ... if you're ever in Surrey, do look us up at Write Out Loud Woking, third Thursday of the month. That goes for everyone else, too!

Don - I can't imagine what life is like for these people. But Britain had no sanitation a few hundreds years ago but we evolved and developed. Other countries already have some infrastructure which they can extend, but what do they do? They spend the money on military and space projects.

The way you structured the words in this piece is superb. Really excellent rhythm of imagination by picking up on all the subtle hints and words of longing.

If I may be so bold, I'd like to say that your writing continues to improve every day. (Not like it was ever bad, mind you)?

John - It's late, I'm tired, and I haven't double checked my figures...but by my reckoning you'll need 44 cubic yards (rounded up) which will cost £597/6/0 plus VAT of £119/9/2 (assuming rate of 20%) which comes to a grand total of £716/15/2. I recommend adding a couple of cubic yards to allow for wastage.

Does this help at all?

Concrete a garden? Were you a land speculator in another existence?!
If this change is a financial worry
And sovereignty has no allure,
You could choose between Strasbourg slurry
And a muckspread of Brussels manure! ?
