Very straight forward/thinking poetry, and your samples made me laugh, i.e. OK Google: Become an Adult.

Can't have one without the other. Solitude without peace of mind is worthless, at least as long as we trouble ourselves. Nice, simple, concise words indeed.

Whether literal or taken metaphorical, this poem is a great one that takes the concept of that which is the symbol of life itself, and juxtaposes it next to simple yet effective dangers that can only be mitigated with the proper knowledge and implementation of said knowledge. I'm sure water warriors and life lovers everywhere would like this too, as it can fit multiple narratives.

Yep, that was me. Haven't used that email address in ages though. I still write - not for anything other than fun, though. Others from that course do it professionally, must be nice to have that kind of confidence.

I love the language in this poem, which is reminiscent of both Dylan Thomas and the atmosphere of Cider with Rosie. The first time I read it I did not notice how specific the repetition was. But when you do it gives you the chance to savour the lines all over again.

Your mind, its ideas and the resultant relationship of chosen metaphors, is truly awesome. And then you find the apt vocabulary to support these insights/outsights/resights. Is narcissism an essential factor? I'm honestly keen to know. Is it an essential aspect of amazing writing?

Hi Laura M,
Saskia's Ghost? Or perhaps another Laura. Are you still writing?
I can't seem to locate you even when I select your name. Send me your details via the inbox if you can message me.

A strong sincere 'message'. Some day, as you read a lot and develop your skills, you might come back to it, and make it a real 'tour de force'. The final verse is excellent. I enjoyed your rhyming.

Is this a metaphor for 'old age'? As of a 'once beautiful' woman? Or do I need to be more literal?

Welcome to WOL. You certainly sound like a well-rounded young lady who will have many avenues to explore through your writing. A sense of 'wonder' is surely the most essential gift a poet can have. And then - application.

Hi Ray
I really appreciate your thoughtful comments. I think that too many people ignore or just cannot see the infinite beauty that surrounds us everywhere; from the mundane or everyday, the smallest to the greatest, the natural world is its own poetry, its own reality. I hope David Attenborough would agree.
Thanks again.
Chris

To be honest I've not seen this form in use before.
I really like the piece, its content and clever references but I do not think it works in this almost mirror image style.
I would have still voted for the first half as POTw however.
Good work

The pace and languid style really support the nature of the bird Chris; I have tried the three line approach and always find that it leaves air to breathe yet impels one on. A really lovely studied poem that inspired us to consider the subject. I wonder if David Attenborough appreciates poetry? If so this would be a fitting study for him. Congratulations on being chosen this week.

Hi Stu.
This poem instantly reminded me of being a kid, when on a summers day I used to love closing my eyes so I could see the pink of my eye lids and watch the patterns the dust made floating on my corneas. I'd forgotten about it until now. Bizarre I know, a little like your poem. What ever made you think of it?
Enjoyed it very much. Beno.
