Thanks David as ever, this poem doesn't give any answers or even questions, just floats in an hot air pocket I suppose. To be honest, it was one of the victims after the fire going back over past struggles in a sort of limbo.

Spot on Suki - maybe needs a stand back reading which you have accomplished, if you get my drift.

Thanks and love .

Very interesting work, covering many ideas, perhaps from personal experience.

I got a bit lost in the middle. I presume 'it' is 'the pain'.

The four lines from 'I want to taste the rainbow...and face the preacher's scorn' are just terrific: rebellion in a nutshell! Also the reality of 'They say ....' ruling the lives of so many persons.

I enjoyed this. It covered quite a range of feelings leaping from one to the other, as feelings often do. Interesting that the final thoughts were anger and depression.

You had fun writing this work, didn't you?

Oh Cynthia, I always treasure your feedback simply because of your insights. The illustration is definitely a contributing factor.

But at the end of the day the words and image combine to leave each reader with their own interpretation. Their own personal 'take away'.

Thanks you and keep the beautiful energy going!

This is interesting. It could be about absolutely 'anything'. The photo is lovely.

Surely the illustration is intended as a guide to widen our horizons of interpretation. But, maybe not. Perhaps I read too much into a picture. But why would anyone use a picture if it isn't an extended contribution to a poem? To work together? Just wondering, Raj, just wondering.

Hi ray,

First of all many thanks for your feedback. The world is just going crazy. We seem to be in for a long hot summer.

And you're right - it is weird, and will get weirder. I recall the Hunter S Thompson quote: When the going gets tough, the weird turn pro. But I don't think he had any of this in mind..

Cheers

Gothic mood magic, Stu. A languid elevation of sex to another level - a sort of consuming , a blooming, and hints of Byron. The poem as with all your stuff just speaks for itself and hangs like petrol- dipped petals on an unspeakable rose.

Dear M.C. Thank you for this. The lady he invited to drink poison was Lady Astor, who also sat on the Tory benches. Unable to call fellow members of parliament liars he referred to what they had said as being terminological inexactitudes. Certainly a master of the English Language. Strangely enough I was inspired to write this poem after seeing an excerpt from You Tube when he addressed both Houses of the Canadian Parliament. He referred to the downfall of France and a warning given by the French Generals that England would have her neck rung like a chicken. He replied....some neck, some chicken. Thank you for your comment. Keith

It took an American to observe that he "marshalled the
English language and sent it to war". His repartee in
parliamentary spats was unequalled but today's "ism"
proselytizers would be throwing up their arms in righteous
indignation at the sort of exchange that occurred when he
was told by a formidable female MP that if he was her
husband she'd put poison in his coffee, to which he
replied that if she was his wife he'd drink it. Those were
the days!

Hello Mike, I have spent sometime reading several of your poems and felt impelled to write and say how much I both enjoyed and found them interesting. I also use a rhyming style and often use my poetry as a voice of protest. There must be a certain affinity here but a separation on some issues which is only natural. Thank you for these poems. I hope to read more as you continue to write them. Keith

Sadly we live in a world of stigma. Predudice closes doors everyday for people and although legislation exists people may be too ill to fight it. It frightens me that we believe we live in a tolerant world, where actually there is little understanding, tolerance or most importantly empathy. It's very sad. The clause 'reasonable adjustments' means that employers can discriminate as they see fit. Maybe I am just very cynical.

I think you give yourself away in the final verse CBT. The way I read this describes one's own torment. Somewhat like the person who goes to the doctor and says "I have a friend with this problem" etc.

You seem to cover all the angst bases that we all worry about really effectively.

Well done Mark. As has been mentioned, there have been a number of blogs this week related to the tragic events in London - not surprising given the many faults it has exposed within parts of our society.

One of the bonuses of Poem of the Week is being offered the opportunity to learn a little more about the author which led me to delve into your Cultural Chameleon Press website. I will add the link here for others to hopefully pick up on:

Oh don't beat yourself up dear Cyhthia.

If I were you I'd put those 'essay poems' on the back burner for now before they drive you insane. It's a way of letting go. A therapeutic and meditative step. They form part of the yin/yang balance.

I wouldn't classify them as dark so please don't hide them away in a diary. They will NOT like you for that. And hey, you have a lot of readers here who love your work.

By the way we'll never fully fathom the workings of a child's mind. Thanks for sharing

Reminders of PM Thatcher's back-stabbing cabinet's
sinister resemblance to the present bunch.
Trust JC to come up with a memorable LOL spot-on treatment.
But I'm not convinced that Germy Con-byn has the stuff
needed to be prime minister...recalling an observation
by an American politician at the time of the investigation
of communism in American public life - that there was
no point in trying to engage with them (communists) as
they had their rules and were only interested in following
them...whatever! That caveat niggles at my mind as the
"caring" image of the Labour leader is promoted by much of the media...shamelessly interviewing certain Tory names
from MT's era to comment on today's political situation.
The Iron Lady must be turning in her grave as efforts to bury Mrs May become all too obvious.

HI Suki, back as promised though a little late. I read this about 3 times to absorb the flow. I just wanted to say how brilliant are these flashes of irony and black humour which pretty much captures everything in a sort of butterfly net -with its rare gems. What sticks out for me is the role of "entertainer" in this scenario. An essential facilitator so different from the gentle lyricisms of Tommy Cooper et al.

The whole is like a cloud of nonsensical hype on the back of disaster and I mean this as a compliment! Ariana Grande/A Grande Arena (superb) The involvement in the young as a sort of sweetener is bizarre (again a compliment). I could go on; I am incredibly impressed by this poem.

Ray.

ooh David, I think some of the more wealthy K&C residents came out to support the victims of this tragedy. We can't lay the blame entirely on their doorsteps - there is nothing wrong with earning money and buying nice things and living in nice houses or living next door to the poor.

What's wrong is the system which forces the poor into substandard accommodation and the corrupt, corner cutting, money pinching politicians and corporations that feed off their vulnerability. I'm not sure it's necessarily the fault of the wealthy K&C residents but I understand the point you are making.

I can't agree with the last verse, it's too harsh and makes a sweeping generalisation. But as Keith said, a good deal to ponder.

With respect,
Colin

re 'not quite rhymes' - I was doing some poetry in cafes in Robin Hood's Bay last week - gave away over 2 dozen books (in return for 5 quids for charity - RNLI) anyhow - there was a woman listening who appreciated poetry and I paused a few times to highlight my 'rather elegant' (to my mind) assonances.
How we laughed ?

Well, re title change - you bowled the ball - it was easy to hit ?
Rick.

I've done a fair bit o' last verse switching - maybe it's better now...for now...?
