Well said, Harry.
'Tis an old piece of advice, but never more appropriate -- Never try to refute religion with science, or refute science with religious argument.
Richard Dawkins would do well to acknowledge that logic and spirituality, like commonsense and love, have nothing whatsoever to do with each other, and it's just that difference which makes us human, not machines.

I take it you mean professor Know-all Harry!
I can tell this by your clever BOLD indicative.
A memorable poem.

These are very good. You have an excellent eye for imagery and a good ear for sound. I see a lot going on here, and admire it in one so young.

Hi Cynthia, thanks for the continued comments. Because each word was treated separately (Cut and pasted if you like) I don't think this piece says anything about football. Maybe that Mr McCarra uses a colourful vocabulary to report it but no more. His match reports would not sit comfortably in a red top for these reasons and this is partly why I like them. Win x

Andy, I like this a lot - unusual, fab images. IMO, I would consider whether the first stanza is needed at all - only because it is so ordinary, in a poem of extraordinary ideas.

I enjoyed this, Harry, the delightful sentiments, and the brisk metric style of rhyme and rhythm.

Yes, we should correspond more. I have always thought so. BTW, since +1 and -1 = 0, IMO, quoting really simple arithmetic does not have secure bargaining power. And what if the egg had an embryo inside it? Is that still just an event, or murder? I love the grit of active discussion. You now seem more open to active 'give and take', without suspicion, or a kind of gentle snarling. Or am I being too personal?

Excellent poem, worth rereading many times for its beauty of images and atmosphere. I agree that the 'horses' scene is outstanding.

Brilliant perspective. And I love the endless possible scenarios that could be considered, using this piece as pure metaphor.

This is superb, every unusual and brilliant image evoking sheer emotion. 'the sun---marrying her with a strip of sunlight over her fingers' - just amazing. I echo Steve and Andy. I also appreciate that this poem is easy to follow, to relate with.

Masterful. I wish I got all the nuanced allusions, but I think I understand enough. With your work, it's the physical feel of the words, and the relentless mood, that absorbs the reader totally.
I really want to catch up with past posts, too. But not tonight.

Good start to the month, Kealan. 'terms and profits' is a thinker. Were you eating Rice Krispies with Coca Cola as you wrote this? A nasty word - 'disappear' - just do 'appear' first, and you're home free.

Hi Elaine;
Thanks for the comment over My Hometown.
Oddly enough the last line which seems to be going down so well was the line which was the one I was most worried about, but pleased you liked it.
See you soon (I am almost fighting fit now)
Cheers x

Hi Dave - can I read this to my reading group this Saturday, obviously saying you wrote it? We were supposed to write something about riots for "homework" but I wrote about something totally different (they won't mind) but I do think this is a wonderful & v clever poem and I know they would enjoy it if I can read this as well.xx

Many thanks for all the best wishes.
Our Gert did not see the romantic side of a present of a poem instead of jewellery - "f*kin' tight-fisted, cheapskate b*ast*d" was her critique, I think. So No, Steve, the initial promise was not fulfilled (unless you count self-fulfillment).
The anniversary was, in fact our 31st and not 30th, but it didn't scan - another point of contention with the punctillious and impenetrable Mrs C.
Once again, many thanks. Next year, though, something from the Argos catalogue and no poem.
