Really splendid writing! Have always loved watching the moon, from that slim silver sliver when new, to the huge luminous orange sphere of a harvest moon. Liked the last three lines too!!!!!

Funny, as usual, but also moving! It's weird how we go back to things from our childhood which we didn't understand at the time. Not many kids like cheese, in my experience anyway. One has to admit it smells strange and sometimes tastes so too. One appreciates it later on.

Julie,
I profoundly disagree with this poem. The quality of your poetry exceeds the quantity by miles. You are a good writer.

Thanks, Graham. Just one of those spots I will never get to - even less chance of doing so these days. But it got me dreaming about the place, and in particular, the bookstore.

Greg, I like the way that you avoid using the 'c' word in V3 to illustrate the title. Clever. I wonder how many of these towns (Malice comes to mind) are there, names after emotions and the like?

But we are the judge and we are the jury
And we call it fudge and say you're not guilty
For quantity we have proof by the score
But of quality too yours has measure, what's more
It was all about whether I ever could try
and write nearly as often or well as you write.
And one final thing, a closing remark
I'm certainly sure that I most truly can't

There is a definite reality in the fact that if you turn up efficiently and
considerately early for an NHS medical appointment, you will be be
kept waiting long after your original appointed time.
By the way, a local online newspaper here in central London had a
letter from an irate correspondent who cited a similarly chaotic
situation when an elderly relative was among a number who were
obliged to wait in the cold and wet at the designated vaccination
centre. So, it's not exactly a rare occurrence on recent evidence.

Great news about the bookstore, JD! I must check out the song. I saw the name on a list of WOL users in the first few hours of February, and thought how wonderful it was.

Sounds a lot of fun for disciples of the "tongue in cheek" tendency..
There are those who call themselves a poet
And do their best to make sure that we know it
Combining their scribblings in the direction
Of what is presumptiously called a collection ?.

An entertaining odyssey down memory lane - welcome in these
dull dank days of disease and dark thoughts.
It appears that "received English" was rarely received north of
Watford. ? But then dialects have always been one of the
spoken (as distinct from unspoken) glories of England. Long may
they linger!
I suppose we should be surprised that here is no such thing as "speechism" as a demand to avoid mickey-taking in that direction.

Thanks Aviva ? I'd written the first verse and thought to myself that I must have written hundreds of poems exactly like this. So, I saved it as 'same old poem' and put it to one side thinking I'd just delete it. I came back a few months later and it struck me I could work the 'same old poem' idea into the poem itself and then I wrote the rest.
And thanks Stephen for the like! ?
