Sounds like the beginning of another story there Nigel!
Thank you Branwell, glad you liked this poem.

This is the first New Age poem I've read. I did enjoy it. Lots of my non conventional diplomas, like Philipos are accredited by the New Age Foundation so this was right up my street. Don the cosmos keeps calling you to connect us poetic spirits together through your poetry.

Don I have explored many various new age routes as you call them (with course certificates to prove it) and the mind is an incredibly boggling thing. I often use the example of the three wise men who could traverse the desert sands using the satnav of the mind and well before satnavs even came into the equation of course. We might even one day listen to century old conversations logged into the memory of trees and of course the ability of trees to send chemical signals to other trees when forests fires kick off - so that fire retardant chemicals may start to emit. Well done you for getting this far. Impressive stuff. P.

Thalia regards me as an adventurer into new genres of poetry, SORTA being my last creation (sorta this 'n' sorta that). After my last (rave-reviewed) venture into the emerging field of New-Age poetry (no poetic shape or form, metre, rhythm, rhyme, scansion etc laid down by our beloved poet giants over the centuries), I am back dabbling my toes in it's waters again.
You may ask “What's this New-Age poetry all about?” Fair question.
The poet works at exciting our imagination and stirring our emotions, which Google tells us is 'poetry'.
Think about it. The esteemed poetry site WOL welcomes New-Age, so ergo, it MUST be 'poetry'. “Logical” says Thalia.
I dedicate this imaginative and emotionally moving piece to New-Age neophytes John Coopey, Fred Nicholson and Emilia Callahan. May you be blessed......

Emilia and Don, I thank you both.
Emilia, thank you for suggesting I revisit 'the Visitor' and potentially rewrite this (maybe) poem, which I intend to do.
Don, thank you for keeping me on my toes, and helping to expand my poetic knowledge. The 2 definitions that follow were copied directly from Google. I did not add my own language.

a piece of writing that partakes of the nature of both speech and song that is nearly always rhythmical, usually metaphorical, and often exhibits such formal elements as meter, rhyme, and stanzaic structure.

Don, neither of the above (word for word) definitions include 'gobbledygook', so I may have to search elsewhere. ?
Again, thank you both, folks.

Don, I think a piece only stating "gobbledygook" would lie somewhere along the lines of a piece of art that has only a single line running through the canvas, or a single shape on it. Pieces of art like that also spark arguments on if the piece is considered art, and what is considered acceptable art vs. not. I do think poetry is more than just rhyming, verse structure, etc.

You inspired me to write-
Alive not dead
In my coffin on the way to the grave,
I pass a pub I hear them rave.
In my coffin I feel all alone,
I'm going to frighten them, where's my phone?
I hid it in a corner in a nook,
It's dark in here to dark to look.
I lift the lid and see the moon,
I feel around and find it soon.
I ring my son who is at the rave.
"I'm still alive don't need a grave!"
"But dad I've just been reading out your will,
And who's going to pay the funeral bill?"
The funeral rave could not go ahead,
When they discovered I was alive not dead.

If I accept your definition of 'poetry'
Poetry is a very free art form, so the guidelines are pretty loose - and as you mentioned, the goal is to stir the reader's imagination and emotions.
Then anything which 'stirs the imagination and emotions' qualifies.
Therefore if I were to write 'gobbledegook', provided it stirs the imagination and emotions it would qualify as 'poetry' according to your definition. Yes? No meter, rhyme, scansion etc. I believe they are calling this rapidly emerging art form New-Age poetry. I happen to see a sample on WOL some time back. It got rave reviews. But sadly missed out on POTW.....

Fred, I would agree with the google definition you found in regards to defining what "poetry" is. I graduated with a degree in creative writing and in many classes we discussed this very same thing. Poetry is a very free art form, so the guidelines are pretty loose - and as you mentioned, the goal is to stir the reader's imagination and emotions. Upon a revision of this poem, it might be worth it to look into the kokology Ruth has mentioned, and perhaps even expand the poem a little by providing more "choices".

You helped me understand what they were singing about. It was all double Greek to me.....
('Double Dutch' is a phrase used when you haven't a clue what people are saying. Ergo they were singing Double Greek. To me. But you understood perfectly and was able to kindly translate for me.Thalia also says thankyou. Muses are not tuned into this hip Greek stuff. She's a high class lady is my Thalia.....)
Or maybe they weren't singing in Greek?.....
