A Freudian slip! I got it! ?? Took me a while too! I do misspel a lot! I'm glad you liked it! To tell you the truth, Mother Goose Rhymes aren't a thing of my culture; not in that way at least... So it's all sort of foreign to me. But I always wanted to write one some day. I don't know if I succeded...Anyway, thanks again! I'm correcting the first line, thank you for bringing it to my attention!

Congratulations on the continuing success of The High Window, David, and your personal productivity as a poet - and thanks for keeping in touch with Write Out Loud. I look forward to your new collection - and to visiting Grimsby and checking out Freeman Street some day. Greg Freeman (no relation)

Thank you all for your kind comments!
I wrote this about 5 years ago and found it last week when flicking through my poetry book.
Blackpool from St Anne's to Fleetwood holds more than a special place in my heart.
I hope to live there in the next year or so if things go to plan ?

I missed this, Kev. Maybe you’ve done it at Well Spoken but I haven’t been for a month or two.
Hope to make it on a Thursday.
Brilliant.

A fascinating interview with a much-published poet who offers us a view of the worlds of writing and publishing that providing the less experienced of us some valuable insights; and a poem that catches the zeitgeist, offering political and poetical insights of its own. Thank you, David, and your anonymous interviewer.

Mark - I lived in Hayes Middx for half my life and often travelled from home to Hounslow via the Heathrow perimeter road. On one occasion around 1975 as I turned onto the road Concorde took off and the sight of it almost overhead took my breath away.

Such a succint and beautifully woven rhythm. Well done, Eve. Like I said, each of your pieces is imbued with that extra 'oomph' most lack nowadays.
I applaud the effort.?

How intriguing when you're older
That behaviour becomes bolder
Disregarding the odd cold shoulder
Or the primly outraged scolder!
But I've heard it said of the north
That its womenfolk love to hold forth!

This brings back a memory of my own.
TRUE -
I found a fiver at my feet
While walking slowly down our street
No one had seen it lying there
Except for me with downward stare
Slowly navigating between two sticks
And carefully acquired mobility tricks!
With considered care I leaned down -
And must have resembled a circus clown,
But my fingers stretched beyond my eyes
And finally seized the abandoned prize.
And whilst I sipped from victory's cup,
The best reward by far was standing up!!

Gentle and persuasive; one is left with a question. Is the clue in the first line, is the missing 'g' a freudian slip? And I've forgotten what Mother Goose stands for.

Reminds me of the (true story) of the proprietor of an arcade, in Newcastle-on-Tyne, who cemented a line of new 1£ coins to the pavement of the street outside - making a trail to the arcade.
1) They disappeared the next day - but it was all in the local paper.
2) The Corporation sent him a bill for repairs to the pavement.
3) Don't ask me for any details, it was probably 30 years ago. But I saw it myself and so did the person who dug out the cash. No it wasn't me, I was working in an adjacent office.

Thank you Alan! I feel very strongly about this particular idea, I really mean it. Surviving is not enough.Thank you again ?
And by the way, fellow poets,I'm happy to announce that H.G. grew a pair and took control after all! I won't go into details but H.G. is already well into doing the brave thing! I thought I should tell you since the story seemed to touch some of you.
