had to check your use of the word 'loon' for diver? and then it made more sense. In the UK 'loon' more often means lunatic. It's an interesting poem painting a compelling image, one that I'm sure could be played around with and expanded upon. Thanks for posting Michaela and welcome to the wonderful world of WoL. All the best,
Col.

good to see you back Kimafia - it's been almost a year, so much has happened!
a good flow to this and Kim has already picked out some killer lines. I'd also like to add the opening two if I may and say also that the title is put to clever use.
hope you stick around.

defo allowed.
will be popping up to the polling station after I've had me fish 'n' chips.
but as I just commented on another blog - This election has left me drained of hope and wishing for miracles. And the weather is shit!
my X will be for a miracle.
good poem Candi although I did giggle at the image of an overstretched nurse - sounds painful - no wonder she needs consoling ?

I saw a photo of the old Swansea Boys & Girls Club on Facebook yesterday - derelict now, in a disadvantaged part of town which isn't very pretty, where less money is directed. Made me think how shitty and ugly poor places are. But how do we change this?
I spoke with a friend today, he volunteers at a local country park, council owned, very popular. One of the volunteers has been spending time putting up info boards in a bird hide. He wants to do more but the risk of vandalism is too high. The roofing felt has already been ripped off to start fires. How do we change this?
forgive me if this has nothing to do with your poem Keith but your poem made me want to write down these thoughts. And it's election day here and it seems we are constantly spoken at by Two Voices - and nothing ever changes. This election has left me drained of hope and wishing for miracles. And the weather is shit! Hope yours is better.

Hi Cynthia,
How thoughtful of you to take the time to drop me a line! I have thought about you, and others, a lot too over the years! It was such an incredibly special time and place for friends to meet and share. I do miss the interactive fun and poetry competitions we would have! Ahhh, those were the days... xx

A sort of Somerset Maugham suffocating familiarity about this Tom. Etched in heat and unfolding achingly in its own time. The opening two lines are a triumph; flooding the present is replicated in the unwinding hose too.
I'm jealous. Lovely quality reading.

Thanks all for your welcome comments. I did feel a bit of a geezer when I wrote this for some reason.
Martin, it's funny how you get attached to favourite clothes - I was always leaving stuff on gigs too far away to get them back. Glad you liked this!
Tom, how strange. When I get a strong desire to own something I always seem to find what i'm looking for. I think a proper decent suede coat or jacket today would be very pricy - mine was £50. I hope you get yours.
Col: Don't get me going. Two things though. Army and Navy Stores was the place until the 80s great quality ex service stuff from different nations. They went under. Also there was a shop opp. Covent Garden tube that sold US baseball jackets - incredibly cool. In the 80s they were about £30 - £40 then. IN the 60s I had suits made by Hepworths to measure -£18 -£20. All tits up now I agree.
There is no utube video sorry, but I messed up the one off the lathe so made one from a piece of dowel, drilled out for the thread and rounded and coloured to match. Those Crombie coats lasted a lifetime didn't they?
Thanks Stu. The buttons were oval and an unusual shape with streaky patterns. No easy task my friend. I have to engage my brain with such things....
Love to all. Ray

we used to buy old Crombie overcoats from jumble sales when we woz punks. I had a real beaut, all silky satin lined and snuggly warm in winter - went great with ripped jeans and mohican! Never see them now. Go into a vintage clothing shop today and it's all shell suits and 70's Adidas. I feel sorry for youngsters, that they don't have access to the dead wardrobes of the 40's 50's and 60's. I had some great suits too, lovely thick material, none of this thin off the peg shite peddled in every high street chain. Ah well, Memory Lane as you say Ray.
cheers,
Col
