Good one, Alan, and its 'message' much needed. I like the easy, swinging style, rhymes and run-on lines. 'Vulgar/Common' are often much distorted these days, into just a denigrating sense. I am a fan of Mike Robinson too.

Ha! I've just come back from a car boot! I'm so glad it was on a nice grassy field - my feet are KILLING me! I like your take on this. You don't often hear it from the grass's point of view!

Ann, you are such a sweetheart. However did you log a comment so soon? I wasn't sure anyone would even notice my four lines! 'Golden Slippers' alone is a huge theme to be explored.

Chris I think this is a well constructed poem exploring the effects of the dreaded C word. Certainly ladies in my family have had this alarming lump appear. This is life in the raw and people I work with in the latter stages of their existence show incredible courage when faced with such devasting discoveries. I'm pleased to see that some of the sitcoms are portraying examples of this too. Well done.

Dear Kath,
You are really getting it together! Kudos to you. I "shared" this on Facebook from the Lulu site.
Have you sent your poems to publishers which specialise in poetry? I think they could get snapped up by some enterprising publisher. Have a look in "The Writer's Handbook, 2011" by Barry Turner, Macmillan Press (800 pages). It has a whole section listing all the UK Poetry presses and magazines on pages 184-201. If you don't want to buy the book, you should find it in your local library.
Good luck. You deserve it!
Your friend-in-poetry,
Alan

Thanks, John. Nice to have you comment on one of my musings (especially as listening to some of your poems was one of my inspirations to join this site).
I do get waylaid into the sonnet form far too often for my liking, although as for knowing what I am doing - I do now, but some of my early attempts at sonnets scribbled on the bus (like many of my poems) were a bit of a mixture of Petrachan and Shakespearean as I'd forgotten the correct rhyme scheme for a sonnet and it was too tricky to rejig them!

Hello David, Re: Highway to Heaven - life changing perhaps rather than intriguing and certainly scary for those who have them - mine being at the top of Ayers Rock in Oz some years ago but it came with a free ride to hospital in a flying doctor's plane. Many thanks for your comments.

Another writing "homework" from my writing group. I just googled what all these "famous" people had chosen. For me, I think I'd chose to take a beautiful full size harp. Lovely to listen too, and practice for my future incarnation!! ;) (Wings and halo to follow!) Either that or Tate St Ives including the view!

Thanks for your comment Cynthia and for picking up that spelling mistake. I do know the difference but sometimes I just don't proof read well enough. I'd always much rather people pointed stuff like that out cos they serve as distraction otherwise. That is one of my favourite poems - I just love the rebelliousness in it. Girl power! x

Love this Isobel. Its sooo you! Its a funny and quirky re work of one of my fave poems...and a glimpse into your personality! I love the reference to old folk who " keep a tally of the peers." I remember my dad looking in his works magazine year after year when he`d survived his stroke, to see who else had "copped their lot" as he put it!

It's a great poem,Isobel, bulging with marvellous lines. I'm sure glad you acknowledged Jenny Joseph's classic; I have a copy of it in one of my anthologies. You want 'dye' I think, unless it is a mischievous typo. I sure don't know why everyone thinks older age equals irresponsibility; but maybe it's just in fun...or maybe not. I think red and purple are closely related, especially if you curl the spectrum into a circle - sex and power!

Super poem, with a marvellous theme adroitly exploited. I was painting my toenails outdoors in the garden, when a neighbouring teenage boy said: That colour does not make your feet smile. I removed the polish immediately, and have never forgotten such a superb comment - it has become a family mantra.

I like it too, very wry. So much of 'believing in God' centres around 'favours' and 'punishment'; IMO, extremely short-sighted.

Castrate them, circumcise them (though I think you will find that female abusers are in a minority) - do whatever it takes to erase them -and I'd happily weigh in with some steel capped boots.
The day paedophilia ceases to evoke strong emotions from sentient, serious adults will be a very sad day for our society indeed.

Hi Laura;
Thanks for your comment over Leaving Belfast... It's certainly a piece where the detail carries it I think, but am pleased you like it. It's one that has made the live set for me and Jeff's band, so you'll end up hearing it again at some point, but thanks for the encouragement.. x
P.S. - hope Sale goes well next week.. x
