a great poem but Very sad - can you write a cheery one next ? or I'll email you some Tommy Cooper jokes - it's hard to be sad when you're laughing. XX

HI Isobel Thanks for the comment. I started this one off at a workshop recently and all the young 'uns didn't have a clue about why the sheets were chilly. Spoiled rotten they are with their CH and double glazing.

I thought it might be, the metaphysical is such a wonderful area to explore. And I'm so with you on the paper copies. I started my paper anthology before I ever put a poem to type and I've lost enough computer files along the way to continue with it.

I think it is great that you inspired Graham to write a poem Ann. I read this second and expected it to be of a very sexual nature. It was interesting to see just how different it was to Grahams. I like the different take on it. Incubus here is loneliness - invading your body and consciousness with all the force that a lover might. I found it very sad - I guess ashes might refer to the kind of loneliness that comes only with bereavement. There is much to admire in the poem. I like the 'gritty dry-eyed morning' line - a great opener.
I think it might have been a good idea not to mention the word loneliness and to express it otherwise - the invasion of emptiness if you like...
I enjoyed this cos it made me think and was a very different take on a subject matter. xx

Oops nearly missed this poem, Dave. It reminds me of the only play I was ever in on the school stage - The Jabberwocky - I played a momewrath and had to outgrabe! Very clever, Dave. xx

Good evening Mrs(common sense)Dye! yes I,ll never understand the need for excluding-considering the 'motto' of W.O.L is 'encouraging poetry performance'-but to be fair,it does,nt mean everybody does it-there are lots of very kind helpful people on here-not that I want to-but we can,t tar everybody with the same brush eh.-thanks Lynn-enjoy the rest of your evening-Stef-xx(Benjichops!-xx)

I really like this piece Ann. The last three lines are really snap the whole piece shut, like waking up. It's interesting that you have balanced the sexual nature of the incubus with the loneliness analogy.

Lot to like about the poem, the sentiments, obviously, and the sonics. I do think the last couplet is a bit over the top, though, and it would be a better poem without it.

Heather, I've been away for several days and am only just getting back into the loop. I enjoyed your comments on my last two pieces, especially 'the little leaf'. Perhaps this poem is too close to the metaphysical, like fairy tales, fables and myths whose real value lie in their undercurrent of life teachings. That 'little leaf' was an instant idea and a great effort to capture. Your bio sure shows a lot in common with my background. Save ALL your stuff in hard copy too; paper might yet outlive electricity. Runes in stone are a bit over the top. :)

Thanks for kind comments. Graham, I see what you mean but the "very nice" was sort of put in as a cliche to show the normality of the situation, and the ref to Classic FM was to explain why the music suddenly appeared.Maybe I could have said that the radio was on, I'll have a think about that! xx
