I have looked this up and can only find that the phrase means to be left out/ignored. Who Piffy is I cannot fully explain: some commentaries say that it is likened to patience. I think Piffy is a rather rotund and red-faced little chap who wears plus-fours and looks a bit like Humpty Dumpty. He's my version of Piffy anyway.....

Hi Cynthia,

Seems you are playing that "is he, isn't he?" game again with this deftly penned story. My guess is that he is, so don't feel you have to disabuse me of my conclusion! It's good to keep the audience in suspenders so to speak. I really enjoyed the read and the diversion into your creative and fertile imagination.

A.E.

Hi Dorinda,

It's a long time since I heard the phrase "like Piffy on a rock cake." I've tried to find out who Piffy was, without success, but I think it's a lovely and quaint old saying. Do enlighten me if you can!
As Cynthia says, more power to your workshop!

A.E.

Hi Cate,

And thanks for your welcome greeting!

Cargoes eh? And not a quinquireme, (one of my favourite words - I well remember having it explained to me as wide-eyed kid) moidore or cheap-tin-tray in sight.

Perhaps it isn't cargo, but "baggage." Baggage frequently contains dirty laundry; some of us have washing machines, others choose to flaunt their skidmarks in the public launderette - pretending they are doing someone else's washing. Me? I think I'll go commando from now on!

Regards,A.E.

Hi Anthony, Thanks for your comments on ';-p' as to wallowing in a wonderful disease... You may be falling into the trap of assuming the poet (me) is writting from his own true experiences. In this particular case is it too mischevious of me not to say if this is the case or not. Win :-)

Hi Cynthia,

RE Avon calling; It isn't myself i am denigrating, more the old image ( Edward Scissorhands ). I was mulling over it the other day while delivering brochures.
Ann was right with the toilet, an attempt at word play.

Re Downpour ; I really wanted to keep this short and simple but i really struggled with it for some reason. In the end i gave up and just wrote it as it came.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Hope you are well x

Kath, this is a great particular image of a universal thought. I think the poem would be really good if you coolly culled nearly one-third of the words and netted the idea more succinctly. My opinion entirely. I've heard this so often about my own work, and I think I have profitted.
