Hi Kathryn, should imagine you'll have a few women doing the same! nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy and you've made the situation more intense with every line, good stuff Jeff X

If you hunt about on here there's quite a few similar poems (not that I have, you understand) but they are nearly always 'unsatisfying' as they rarely add anything to the genre. I can, again 'see where you are coming from' but I agree with Graham, you need to get a few ideas that are, at the very least, new to you. As a personal description of something, it's OK, but for me a poem has to fizz a bit...add something to the mix...smell of sulphur...or have an oblique empty hollow that others can pour their own stuff into. As Cynthia says...it's a fairly common pastime (well, it is in our household) so, go on....make it new!

:)

Kathryn, I like what you are trying to do with these pieces and wonder if you have read any of DH Lawrence's descriptions of passion etc. They might give you some great ideas.

Having read this several times and the comments listed before this, I do have to agree a little with the confusion idea, although I would rather say lack of clarity is more important. I wouldn't have left the highway, I would have turned from the highway into etc etc. Headlights in the countryside shouldn't be bizarre? piercing works better etc.
There is no point in making any other recommendations as the writer knows what she wants to say. However unless one is trying to confuse, clearer descriptions are necessary.

I have no problem with the invisible grass - I think the poem gives a good impression of misty wet twilight. I just wonder why you cried, also the juxtaposition of fear and joy puzzles me a little. But I like a puzzle!

I read this three times before reading TC's comment because i didn't want it to influence my thoughts.
To be honest i'm a little confused.
The title suggests a communion with nature as it doesn't include 'holy'. I'm fine with that part and i love the images, particularly 'a black barn swelled out of the fog.'
However, invisible grass doesn't sit quite right. How would anyone know where the rabbit came from if it's invisible, or is this an intentional imagined image?
and is it possible for anyone to walk fearfully with joy?

Perhaps it's me who's missing something. I'd love you to explain further Cynthia. You got me interested in your thought patterns here because i really love the idea behind it and it is powerful. Of course these are only my own thoughts and as you know, i learn a lot from reading other peoples work so hope you don't mind this kind of feedback. :-)

A lovely poem Beulah - I'm glad the old rig rat isn't proving too much of a nuisance on here. He has many sides to his character - most of them mischevious. Beware if he every offers you his hand - many is the time he has sent an electric shot shooting up mine...I once wrote a poem about it called 'Retribution' but I doubt he would ever let me post it on here - far too rude and revealing...Hope you are well Beulah.xx

This has real charm. It honestly underscores that awkward late teens/early twenties period when the sexes often separate emotionally, and quite dramatically too. Cheers to the young man who recognizes the change and chooses to adapt also. But, the girl/woman in question may not appreciate the 'wife and mother' angle.

Very well turned lines about a common past-time. At least the object of fantasy is a real man. And, by the way, when 'she looks away' - too late - he knows.

Kathy, you know I do admire your work.
I'm a bit confused with the last verse which sounds good, but seems out of kilter with the seasons used to make your poetic point. If it is stacked in November for winter heat, how could it have spring/summer flowers on it? I know 'indifferently ...woodpile...decorated...and dandelions' is alliteratively handy, but is it sensible. If I'm whistling in the wind, blow me over.

Aw Beulah, thankyou for the credit of my input to this space being worthwhile.

TC is a good poet and great when it comes to commenting and so are you when you spend time here.
I certainly didn't think you were him and people have met him in the company of his sister Isobel.
There are many here who have a separate profile. Their reasons are their own, some of them take on a role when performing some of their work. Like an alter ego. I guess those who MIGHT be fooling others are only really fooling themselves. I know, i've done it myself in the past. :-)

Love to you too,

Thanks for your message, Isobel. It's true, working on a paper over the years has usually been absorbing and always kept me on my toes. But I rediscovered poetry a few years ago after not writing any since my teens, and am lured by the things it expresses that journalism can't. You may be surprised to know that I find time to monitor WOL fairly regularly, even at work! It keeps me thinking about poetry every day. (Sounds a bit like a laxative?) Greg
