Chrystel,
A sad lament and a Tribute to love. When our hearts ache they do so with genuine feeling. Bless you for these fine words.

Thanks, Becky. I must be one of the few people left who is enjoying all of this. And I don’t buy into the view that politicians have caused this mess. We’ve caused this mess.

This rocks! I love the art of parody. Although I wish it would stay in songs. The whole political shebang seems a joke at the moment.

This is hauntingly beautiful. My friend has been through all the steps in your poem this year, and she does not have much longer. The c-word sucks, and I’m sorry. ??

I can live with typos in eemails, but not errors in posts.
I don't like seeing it in anyone's work. unless it is apparent English is their second language or unskilled with English, if you know what I mean.
To me, if someone is obviously proficient with the language it shows carelessness. It happens often.
I liked the linger/finger couplet ?

Tom,
I was able to read this with a personal understanding of my own dilema with the subject of love. The poem unsettles me but also helps me to see where I have been and where I now need to go.
Thank you for this

Sometimes, my dearest friend, you have to walk out of the trees, to be able to see the wood, and sometimes you're pleased you did, but memories are only a curse until you become the master of them.
So beautifully and skillfully written, I felt as if I was standing there with you. Incredible.

I enjoyed this very much. These two lines really stuck out and sparked something in me "The teary eyes struggle / Through the crowding haze". Great writing!

That is so true Lisa, without pain there would be no growth, but also without love and it sounds like you've found that. As ever beautifully raw and true.

To me, water is always emotion. When I read this I thought of detachment, to protect your feelings, to keep you safe from hurt, but no-one can live like that for long. We've all sat on the banks sometimes, to scared to get in, to feel the current, the power of it, but in the end, we all have to swim. Beautiful.

I've never really thought about my muse, until now. I know, shocking revelation.
This is so expressive of the comfort I get from writing that for the first time ever I had to consider it. I think if I had to really put my finger on it, I'd have to say my shadow. A little slice of night that has followed me, grown with me and occasionally led the way.
But as I say, I've never really thought about it before. I love this for that reason, it is so well written it made me stop and think.

I love the imagery of the passage of time, of life. When I was 20, I was eternal, invincible and insatiable. Now, I'm wiser.
And that field of memories looks inviting.

The final stanza is quite powerful as it speaks of a person´s life drawing to its conclusion, wondering what it was all about. Or at least that´s how I see it. Life seems to begin with anticipation and ends with meditation. I like this poem as it makes me introspective and thoughtful.
Thank you
Keith

Thank you so much for reading and your curious cat feedback Dorothy! I imagine readers of poetry that survives a hundred years from now will be trying to figure out the answer to “who” is our muse, but we poets know the truth, which is that is rarely an individual, but a mixture of creative musings and relationship fantasies!

Great poem Ruth. Quite honestly, if I became suddenly single again after such a long time I have absolutely no idea what I'd do. My generation found dates in what is now apparently, the, "Old fashioned way," of actually talking to people face to face. I think I'm old enough now to say bugger it, seen it, done it, got the t-shirt and am choosing not to wear it.?

John, thanks for sharing this, that is the first thought that comes to mind.
I recognise that awful finality in the last act of a despairing life and the aftermath which consumes those left behind. Like many of us - I hadn't realised how many - suicide touches the lives of those around me, and sometimes looms over those closest to me. And the closer the greater the continuing pain. That the pain can be overcome is a warm message to be repeated. And your advice to listen comes at the right time. All credit to you for that.
I weighed up the Icarus story, by the way, my poem shot through with the guilt of Dedalus, re-shaping pride in his successes to figure the loss of a son, that vital part of him. We do what we can for the young: from a distance, I remember then I though time was on my hands, but I was wrong. Life has its term and life is precious.
Dom.
