Ha! I've reached the age (and the stage in life) when I don't care if I "matter". I'm content to know that I HAVE mattered and provided an
important relevance to the lives of others. Old men should offer
stability and common sense guidance whilst looking after their own
well-being for as long as nature lets them and the grim reaper stays
the hand that holds the scythe that mows us all down in time.
Save me from the trendies and the perennially immature.,,of which
there seems to be an egregious fearful excess in this modern age.

Thanks Lisa, Ruth and Kieth, glad you enjoyed my furry lion and pearly clowns. ?
Computer will soon be boxed up as we are moving back to the green and pleasant land so my engagement here will be spasmodic for a while.

Yea that's what lies do - spawn false realities. Just as truth makes known what is real.

I have a real soft spot for starlings....in fact I was watching a mini fleet of them flying in formation earlier this evening. I especially liked your line ' I put my hand in my pocket and found darkness, failure and losses' we all do that... Sometimes finding just one solitary, shiny hopeful penny!

The call of the wild is within us all, and at Autumn equinox that balance of decision is all around us....the recognition of what is the same is the only way to soften our spikes! Enjoyed your poem.

After reading this poem I thought the answer must be that we embrace the world more fully and do so with courage. A poem which demands answers and one which is very relevant in today´s world.
Thank you for this

Don - thanks for the comments. I've always been happy to combine
words and music - harking back to the days of troubadors and the
like - and the way words can tell a story in the framework of a tune.
I can't claim credit for the A&R - that's courtesy of a guy called
Pete Dymond here in the UK who uses my taped "rough" to supply
the finished item from his studio in Bristol. Always dependable!!

Brave poem - takes on what exists in the shadows?
Go tell the Riverman.
summer rains' quiet incantation, the animals come and go,
in the far-distant, the snow melts as the river flows;
time is a demon
the animals know.
It’s looking for you, y'know:
...in the abdomen – demon go
...in the albumin – demon go
... in the acumen – demon go

Very nice Ruth....
This ditty is brought to you by the letter F (if the writer can think of enough nice F words)
I'm a little F word
Not that F-ing word
I'm sweet and pure an innocent
I Flit in sky like Flird
(How'my doing?...not heard of a flird?...neither have I)
I Flitter round the Fir tree
Where can I rest my Feet?
I've Found a little Foothold
I'm F word, what a Feat
(Worthy of POTW?)....?

A tree was enjoying a day with his forest friends,
But a strong wind builds up and his good day ends
All his leaves are blown off and he's left sad.
Naked with no leaves he feels leafless and bad.
He runs away from the forest and grieves.
His friends were distraught ,"He was absent without leaves."
