congratulations on POTW Beno.
I missed this one so I'm glad of the second chance.

I loved the energy and drive of this. I found the language a bit fruity, and I don't think I would have been so bold to use so many expletives as that myself. but this is not a criticism. of course you should speak in your own voice, and this particular poem wouldn't have worked without those words included.

Cheers Kevin

Thanks to Jon, Darren and Anya for reading and liking!

Big Sal, I think the pleasure of a fire certainly goes way way back, even before nostalgia was invented ! Thanks.

I'm glad you thought so Taylor. Especially as it feels like a man's world!

Hi David. A thoughtful interpretation, and one which bears scrutiny. I was quite absorbed and challenged by the task, and reading it does make a comparison with that degradation you mention. I seriously wonder if that led to any PTSD - although perhaps a sense of relief or duty might have been uppermost.
I often think how inadequate are the trappings of funerals crematorium style and think an open fire would be far more civilized. That would of course require a much broader and more inquisitive mind at work. I love the phrase Fuehrer's carcase. Versatile I feel.

Thanks Kevin. As I implied to David, I was absorbed, but these things can trigger other thoughts. I was not deliberately aware on that level myself. I try to infuse my audio with a distinctive approach, thanks for liking that!

All the best to one and all.

Ray

"Any country that is willing to sacrifice its freedom for financial advantage deserves to lose both". Words from a US president
that are worth bringing to mind at this time. The country needs
only to hold its nerve IF May has complied with the severance
demanded by the referendum vote.
Go back to the original concept of national sovereignty. The Tories
under Macmillan decided to discard the Commonwealth for a
European "Common Market" - opposed by Atlee who accused
them of abandoning our allies in the WW2 conflict that supposedly saw the origins of the political entity that is now the EU - but
which began incognito as that "Market". During my lifetime, I've watched as the original went through the stages of "European
Economic Community"..."European Community"...to the "European
Union" - with not a peep from successive UK governments busy
signing up to these changes ultra vires - since this was beyond the
mandate they had from elections because at no time was the public
consulted about the power transfers taking place and thus it was
a stealth policy of want of truth, deceit and dissembling by our own
elected representatives In government...opposed by others who
were accused of being disloyal and worse by government leaders
(see John Major and his "bastards" reference for a sample) -
and even now their modern equivalents - like Jacob Rees-Mogg -
are accused of "extremism".
The primary players of the EU - like Juncker - have no elected
origins and cannot be voted out of office by the peoples of the
countries of the EU. It is a political entity that serves itself - not
democracy as we understand it. It is not our way - and maybe, just
maybe, the referendum vote belatedly reflected that realisation!

I tell you what I'd pay to see:

The looks on the faces of past generations to see the world as it is today. It'd be like a horror show mixed with a steampunk gravitas.

It'd be the saddest tale ever told.

Again, like I said before Ian, you could write about anything and have it come out superb. Every new piece you put out I always now find myself wondering if you ever adapted in some way to another kind of art form.

Good on you, and keep up the great writing.?

Nice one Beno. A poem with blood in its veins! Blow up the world, why not, it's all going to hell in a basket anyhow!
I love the way the rhymes drive it forward, be a great one for an open mic.
Takes me back nearly 70 years, believe it or not, to the climbing scene in the 50's and 60's when we were all on bikes to Lanberis Pass every Friday night, doing dangerous things and looking for girls.
Dark Manchester streets and Youth clubs and coffee bars. Go for it and keep on going!
PS, I like the 'snowflake armies' phrase - fair comment on today's Labour Party.

The commercial aspect is almost "too much" and too early! And
it is not much help towards keeping children's expectations under
control. But chin up and keep supporting the needy. Can I send you
my address? ?
I never took you for a stooge
To Christmas cheer, old chum,
But do your kid's deserve a Scrooge
When waiting for Santa to come?

I'll bet my bottom dollar
The juvenile seeking Mars
Will very quickly muck it up
By using plastic jars

Why do we think so lazy ?
Nothing it does achieve
I want my naked fruit like you
A chore it is, yes Eve

Changing ways it takes a while
Not easy to attain
Let's change to get sustainable
More plastics are a pain ?

Well done Eve - I liked your 'naked fruit and veg'

In truth, Brian, my kids love the bits I get them from the Charity shops. And they reciprocate. My daughter once got me a birthday card which read 'You've been like a dad to me'. I haven't stopped laughing.
It seems we share a dislike for Christmas, Poem. But my dislike pales against New Year's Eve which seems to mock me with 'Another year gone and you've done f**k all again'.
