A few lines that encapsulate so well human
delight in triumphing over frailties of flesh and bone.
I thought at once of my sister who is due a second knee replacement op. early in 2012.
I think she'd understand exactly what is meant!

This has a real pagan carol feel to it, I can hear the music. Makes me yearn to explain the physics behind it before the sacrifices begin! Only joking! I enjoyed this and its has warmed me up. Best, Jane

I enjoyed this, it made me smile: you are either waking in the dark because the book is not bad enough to cause complete stupor and you should change that book or there are thoughts crowding in , in which case I think there may be another poem on its way!

Great stuff, J.C. Was this the one you mentioned being involved with for a school?
If not, it would be just fine for youngsters to
sing. I'd delete the final verse/stanza as the
repetition already used is ideal to close the piece. You have clearly put some work into this post and it is SO right for the time of year. Even the title is attractively English/ idiosyncratic! Give that man a visit from Santa!

Hi John, I like the lines but don't understand the poem. Initially I thought this was about bonfore night and GuyFawkes. I would be grateful to understand the 3rd verse and the "plumed bride", how does that relate to the first verse. Sorry to be a bit slow..Best wishes, jane

Stefan, not a good idea in a bungalow! Lol. ;)
Thanks for comments, Stella and Cynthia.
John, I think the second run up was because I'd forgotten what I went up for on the first! ;)
Oops! Thank you for correction, Tommy - can't think why I didn't notice that! :-)

The thought occurs to me that to appreciate love poetry, perhaps you have to have some concept of what love is :)
Am trying hard to write something for you comp - just keep getting interrupted...

Oh, Dave, you've brought back such memories for me of my own father, who LOVED celebrating Christmas - and then one year he was
'At the heart of that Christmas,
but on the edge
Saying little, watching all,
Soaking in life and love,
as Death stalked him.
The voice...
now painfully weak.'
I remember his happiness of Christmases past and the love, warmth, generosity and good cheer he spread around.Thank you for bringing him back to me again today. x
