Reminds me of a conversation I had with my daughter in the car once. She had something difficult to do and I said that it always helped me at such times to remember what the Buddhists said about these occasions. She asked what that was. I said that I couldn't remember.

I totally understand about you not wanting to cut your poem down. When something is deeply meaningful to you, it's a hard thing to do. I've tried to do the same in the past, when I've been trying to squeeze things into 3 minutes for a slam. I found the essence of what I was saying went.
I'm glad you explained who Williams was. I thought he must be some famous political or military figure and didn't want to show my ignorance by asking :)
I hope you have a peaceful Christmas Mike.

Be great to have you at the Bards this Monday 12 December, John. You'll get TWO slots to read /perform (four mins each slot, but we're not too strict about timings). It's at the Magazine pub, Magazine, New Brighton CH45 1HP, starts 8pm. There will be free butties and mince pies in honour of Christmas. The New Brighton Bards is on the second Monday of each month. Our sister club in central Liverpool, THE LIVER BARDS, is on the third Monday of each month. Both events are listed in WOL's gig guide. Be great to see ye. All the best

Thanks for your comments on 'My Turntable', Laura. I know what you mean - you can't beat a good 7incher [the records I mean]. Whenever I play 'Gloria' by Them I turn into Tigger.

Golly Stellaaaah [startin' to sound like Brando?] this is good. I'm a big fan of nonsense verse [Jabberwocky, natch, and yes Rambling Sid Rumpo too.] Perhaps you'd do me the honour of looking at 'Wumbelfood' [posting in a min.] It's an old one but judging by 'Grunkling', and the favourable comments you attracted...

Thank you for reading Two Minutes Nick. I was lucky enough not to lose anyone in either of the Great Wars?? However, when I see those poor sods dropping seconds after going over the top, it makes me feel so angry. Hope you're finding the site useful and friendly too. No pretensions, just put up your work and see what people think.

It's definitely Rambling Sid, via Stanley Unwin ... but why no mention of cordwangles?

Hi isobel, thank you for commenting on my work. not many do so all comments are appreciated. I took not of the input and thought about shortening the last serious effort, but on reflection wanted to keep it as a story as i feel that all is relevant.
i dunno if you know the film 'The Hill' Starring Sean Connery. They are in a glasshouse (military prison) battling a sadistic guard.
The last line in the poem refers to that guard, who in the film is called Williams, and i suppose we all have our Williams to battle.
thank you once again
may you and yours have a top christmas
best wishes
mike

Forgive the hiccups in diction. The words do actually knock into the tune but it was all a bit hectic - singing, playing the guitar, eating my chips etc.

blindness makes no difference martin, any connection that people have is unseen. we have to choose to let it in to feel it. seperateness is a state of mind. we all belong to the same biological template, it is only the ego tells us any different. we are unique but not different. society is essential for survival. look at the evidence produced from studies of children raised in the wildnerness....basic cognition all fucked up..mind you one doesnt need to go wild to be isolated. some people die alone in those tiny high rise flats without even a nice cup of tea cos the milk doesnt get delivered that far up and its too far to go down to the shop...;)

Comment is about hope (blog)
thanks for all comments. it gives hope to know anyone is interested at all...theres someone out there...its a 28 days later moment.
francine, it is romantic in the true sense of the word. i thought he was jesus this paramedic as i had just come back from unconsciousness and there i was in his arms. he also had long hair so it was an easy mistake to make. i tell this story all the time. it was a defining moment. its sad though as the memory of euphoria is wrapped in the idea that id have been happier dead.just me and my paramedic jesus angel, i was happy for a minute.it was more likely a sudden rush of blood that did it.
theres no place lonelier than on a trolley in the corridor of a hospital. coming round ive never felt a stronger need for reassurance that there was somebody else in the world.
