Thanks for the comments on 'Chaos'. The title is from an interest in Chaos Theory - and some 'poetic licence' taken in applying it (loosely!)to human relationships;and the picture is of a fractal - interpret as you will ;)

Yep - agree with Ann - last verse not needed; I would also lose one of your shells in the 2nd - or replace rather. And who would miss or mourn? ... well small deeds or actions by every single, solitary soul can have a chaotic impact on many others - I can get quite caught up in chaos theories :)

It's weird really, isn't it?What we do for the pursuit of pleasure!Liked the bit about the car containing your life, and the panicked feeling of death being almost upon you.The bit about the spirits of sea-faring men dragging you out to join them, lost at sea is another good bit of imagery.Sod's law-seems to prevail whatever we do,wherever we go!Are you sure you'll do this again?

Hi, dear Ann! Thank you very much for your comment on my romance "Don't go away". Ann! I am just touched. Your words really encourage me. I'll try to tape another Russian romance and would like to hear your opinion. And the main point is: it's not the question of my voice but of the words in this or that romance. With warmest wishes, Larisa

Hi Cynthia

Maybe this should be moved to a discussion thread. You've highlighted one of life's apparently insoluble dilemmas, which is of particular importance to those aspiring to write. To what extent should one subordinate the negative to focussing on the positive?

I don't have an answer and would be genuinely interested in what others have to say. For myself, (and I think others) I feel a periodic compulsion to write down words which express what I am gripped by. It is something to do with 'being real' (that may sound pretentious I know). Sometimes it is 'positive' sometimes it is 'negative', and a mixed diet does seem to express reality/life/the universe or whatever we call it.

I suppose there is a type of negative poetry (sometimes seen on WOL) which sets out to disturb people for no good purpose. But that can be avoided, can it not?

'where once was dressed an idol, older
no longer the desire to hold her'

What cheery lines for us 'grandes dames' of the poetry world! LOL

There is much to enjoy in the rest of the poem though and I like the realism you have injected into it. Very few relationships manage to escape the cruelties of time and familiarity...

Thanks for reading and thanks for the comments, it is much appreciated.
Cynthia, with most of my writing I hope there are layers - that's the way my mind works - things relate to each other in both an obvious and obscure way. I like word play, and thought play, and lateral meanings - it can be as obvious, or as deep, as you want it to be. I think with a lot of poetry the interpretation belongs to the reader, not the writer; as here - both Francine and Carole have seen different things.
Sometimes, you are quite right, I am literal and obvious, and I use poetry to try to cope with, or make sense of, things that are getting on top of me - sometimes people relate to that, sometimes they don't. But whatever my frame of mind, or my intention, or my meaning when I write something, is irrelevant to how the reader will feel about it, so why does it matter whether my intention was to be deep or literal? I am a multi-faceted person, I endeavour to make my work reflect that, sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Mmmm... Some wonderful imaginative lines in this Peter.

'And he must taste
Fresh lilacs second skin
Like Lycra fits hips unforgiving in allure
so curves open like a chord'

'An internal wave of passion
In an opera of tenderness
This stage is a landscape
And I drape over you
You are my flavoured gloss'

'he has become
nothing more than mulled wine'

'this paper spine is torn.'

p.s. I love the title, but did you mean L'Oréal? Seems to make more sense then ; )

Hi Cynthia, thanks for the comment on 'stone I own' as usual I'm never sure about posting stuff, also it looks different when you post it, I would like to take guidance on punctuation etc. I dont normally punctuate, with this one I did and its no good, so ill go and edit. I have recently been joining different poems together just to try somethin new, it may head towards a cut up idea, just to keep fresh. I seem to have lost the desire to shout at moment its all Love n stuff. Bestest . Pete xxx

In the spirit of discussion as we might have around a table with beer and sandwiches, I contend that the 'four anxiety clusters' (I am well aware of them) are probably the most negative words to introduce the most negative attitudes to life that I have ever experienced. If a person didn't have angst before, he/she would definitely develop it after being introduced to these self-help 'psychological' ideas. Who freely discusses 'joy' and 'positive revelation', the building up instead of tearing down?
This is a good poem, Dave, for sheer controversy, the 'Plato' thing.

Pete, I think this is fabulous. Your images are simple and weighted with meaning; diction is particular for sound, visual effect and significance; individual lines are like Haiku moments. If anything, I didn't think it needed punctuation at all, leaving the reader to sink or swim. The title is excellent, loaded with suggestion.

This is really good, all of it: slippery and provocative. I like the capitallized Beauty and Rose, as Hayden says, redolent of Classic expressions full of included meanings. The title is superb, the 'outer skin' and the 'inner seed', very novel, loaded with implications. I never pass over your work now. I may be off the wall, you know, interpretive-wise.
