Like many celebrations I have very mixed feelings about the crass commercialism that always accompanies such events. On the other hand I applaud the recognition of good fathering, because there are a lot of good fathers and step fathers around that so often don't get a mention. At the same time I grieve for those who have not had a good father experience for whom such events would be something not worth celebrating.
But good on you Ray I am sure you have made a good step father
Nice one mate

It's good to see you voted POTW for the second time Alexandra. Interesting to read your bio/answers too. I have a young granddaughter who has similar issues that you describe with both speech and writing but she also has your spirit too!
Good to know that you have graduated and are now perhaps freer to compose more compelling poetry.

I am not in the least surprised that this poem has become POTW. It is an excellent use of words. because of its natural rhythm and pace I can imagine it being read or recited in a live situation.
Many congratulations Alexandra

This is a really forensic analysis of letters and how they can be used, and abused. A very clever and well thought out piece.

You raise a good point. I am afraid I can never quite understand people taking 'selfies'. But then I hate pictures of myself anyway, much less take them myself.

Has Brian gone on holidays?
I haven't seen him round
He's gonna miss sweet Bridget
Edging into town
He's asked for edgy poetry
I've booked her in for Mon
Perfect brekkie viewing
My job is dusted, done
Come on you scary bugger
Don't hide away, be scared
She's nothing to be frightened of
Come out, show, be bared ?

Sorry jeannot, I genuinely hope you didn't misunderstand my comment. When I said, "Makes me smile whenever I see this happening," I meant people taking selfies and on the contrary the topic choice was both original and superbly executed. Sorry, what I'm trying to say doesn't always come out the way I mean it to.?
