An interesting read Jennifer - Your knowledge of painters is more detailed and extensive than mine but I'll go for a Spencerian Resurrection (maybe with a tad more zaz).

Many thanks to all who liked and who commented.
It was good to be able to communicate something of what I experienced looking out to the large field at the bottom of our garden. The shadows of trees at the edge of the field really do push into and sweep across the field as the sun goes down. And co-incidentally, yesterday evening the moon was in the same phase and position.
As to 'co-incidences', how many people have ever stopped to wonder at the fact that the sun, the moon and the earth, three different sized bodies at different distances from each other and in different orbital relationships to each other, overlay ( the moon over the sun and earth's shadow over the moon) so perfectly when there are total eclipses?.

Thanks, Don, for commenting on my hacked haiku! I dig your work, man (including your haiku). Also, I found your Bio very relate-able (I have similar "extra help"). Looking forward to seeing more from you. Take it easy ---- J. Zane

Well penned...a vignette that's vivid in its depiction of an orderly (and
contented?) life. Winding down is one of the pleasures of later years,
allied to achieving personal aims and pleasures previously denied
through pressures of a working life.

Each to his/her own. I for one find the prospect of ongoing heat too
wearisome to endure, being a child of rainy days and mist and the
blessing of occasional sun. Confucious says: "change is as good
as rest" - to which I add "frequent change is a tonic". I agree with DW about the cartoon you use for your blog. I'm smiling as I sign off.

Loved this one yet again Ray! No carless gutters now. Although we were two girls we used to play with them too. I remember being fascinated by all the different kinds and colours. My kids used to do so as well, and had huge bags of them clinking about.

Oh the politeness of this site. If this were an american site, we'd be ripping each others throats out over a misplaced hyphen. Seriously though, "I am nothing but a builder/but tonight I dreamt I was
an architect." is absolutely gorgeous in its humility.

Hey, wait a minute. I get a picture of a boat and there ain't no boat! What the heck! Honestly though, i really enjoy your poem, particularly "no more bricks we can melt". You know what sort of temperature needs to be achieved to melt brick? Neither do I. But it's hot I assure you. Everyone wishes to be god. Wonderful final conceit. Kudos!

I love this Jennifer, for two reasons. One, because it's so well written and two, because it's so beautifully descriptive of a magical moment in a magical place. Beautiful.
