Formidable words with a touch of Gloria Gaynor thrown in. A good poem which made me stand up.
Thank you

Emer,
I had given some thought of going to the Missing Persons Bureau but this welcomed poem put my mind at ease. Welcome back.
This poem is gentle in its lassitude but with a promise of hope within reach. The words, ¨her hair from red to grey ¨says something but I am uncertain as to what.
Well done Emer.

Cynthia,
A poem which evokes similar memories of adolescence when Pamela Brown took me behind her father´s garden shed and said those all too familiar words, ¨if you show me yours, I¨ll show you mine ¨. Being a fledgling homosexual I came away unaffected and equally unimpressed. She made a second attempt some time later but fore warned is forearmed.
Your poem also speaks of an innocence which makes me wonder if such events occur now with television and pornography so easily available.
Well done Cynthia. I now avoid garden sheds.
Thank you
Keith

The smallest child or the adult lover, both called baby.
The poem tells of great intimacy but perhaps anonymity too.
Really enjoyed.

Becky, solidarite! I know how you feel! English is not my mother language either but I love it so much! I can't help it! It's the tongue of my heart! I write and think and read in it as much as I can! Kudos for putting your work out there! ?

In the past, which we love to mock these days, the crime
of rape was beyond the pale and often reciprocated by a
death sentence. Yet, in the absence of proof, it can be
used as a weapon of revenge and therein lies the danger
that sees the innocent disbelieved or the guiltless found guilty. The added tragedy is that an examination that
seeks the truth can also be mentally damaging to a young
and vulnerable mindset, especially when driven by others
with their own personal parental or guardian reasons to act.

Brian must have caught you on a bad day. The material
is so far from your usual style that it clearly provoked a
tongue in cheek response from BM.
I have a career's experience dealing with druggies and the
sort I had deep sympathy with were those affected by the
acquisitive effects of medical prescriptions. Theirs were the
real tragedies.

Well done.
I found an old 'paper' last week, stuck between the pages of a poetry book, and I LAUGHED. It was five columns of rhyming words, no order, just sound. And I remembered, years ago, I had some fun tossing 'rhyme' words together and then trying to 'make' something intelligible. I do recall that I had a great time, challenging myself, to no end whatsoever. Just fun.

Like celebrating Christmas on Halloween, or eating a TV dinner made from unicorn meat.
What is it about your writing that you can take any topic off the cuff and turn it into relatable poetry?
I struggle to find topics worth my time, as when I begin on them, I usually just find something else to write about.
Instant gratification + Mass production = Animal Farm + 1984. (Unsure of how my math helps, but yeah)

Daniel,
You handle this poem with sensitivty and a touch of gentle humour but underlying it you do not avoid the tragedy of what it is all about. It is well crafted and in touch with reality. A good work.

What a valuable review, reminding developing writers (aren't we all?) that we move through stages of our development as we hone our craft and our confidence.
I find particularly relevant to Write Out Loud's mission - bringing more people to poetry, poetry to more people - Patrick's observation: the rigorous process of crafting under these conditions risks ironing out the quirks or quiddities that make a voice distinctive and original. Poems that are too competent are missing something vital.
Absolutely so, which is why open-mic poetry events are so fascinating with their diverse, authentic voices; and on the same page we see that writ large in Mike's piece about the American chap who turned up to the open-mic and found his (distinctive and original)voice: https://www.writeoutloud.net/public/blogentry.php?blogentryid=82073
Poetry, eh?

Thanks for your very kind words on 'The Ship they call Alzheimer's'.
I do have an alternate Verse 9 (which I have used for a local Dementia support group).
Alternate verse (9)...
When you see me do impulsive things
Risks I normally wouldn't take
It's how I am my friend these days
All I'm asking is a break
As a performance piece the line with 'piss take' has the shock factor. Much appreciated M.C.

Thanks for commenting. It is quite the reward to be able to open a door, however briefly, for communication.
