When can we expect a CD of these hugely enjoyable - and, let's admit - clever! - takes
on hits of yesteryear?

I was listening to a 50s compilation recently and it struck me just how many songs had a girl called Sue or Susie in them. It was obviously extremely popular back then - or maybe it's because so many words rhyme with it - like glue, chew, you, who, too, to, two, loo, flew, brew, shoe, new, drew, blue, atishoo - oh, and stew of course.
Enjoyed your rendition, especially the twiddly vocal bits :)

I have just realised that we reported on Simon Armitage's opposition to this earlier in the year: http://www.writeoutloud.net/public/blogentry.php?blogentryid=30243
Now, if we could get those two debating it on here...

Hello Foxy,
Thankyou for commenting on "The Naming of the Parts". I must say I did hesitate to make that reference.

Hello Anthony,
Yes, I too have been in the dark about women's parts for a lifetime. Our Gert enters the bedroom fully clothed, the light goes off and miraculously she seems to have changed into an impenetrable body stocking when she gets in bed.
My knowledge of ladies underclothes therefore comes from hours spent in Primark fondling bras and panties.

Although the distinction is a fine one I have replaced 'import' with 'impart'.

A tribute so rooted in admiration and affection that the Man himself would surely find himself blinking heavenwards.
He created his own universe here on Earth for
the rest of us to share and enjoy and that legacy will live on.

Stimulating. It reminds me that you don't have
to be in a church to revel in the glory of
creation or to feel a part of it.
A minor quibble - should "import" be read as "impart" (communicate)?

It seems to me that you have to know war to want to know how to avoid it.
The interesting aspect of martial matters often
lies in who is standing behind urging the warriors on.

I think the Larkin lot would disagree with you Steve. I'm always round at Mike's. We drink a lot, get really bitter and slag everyone and everything off. Then we watch the Jeremy Kyle show and everything's right as rain...

There is also a joke I am reminded of via your choice of illustration John:
A wman was concerned and frustrated by her husband's lack of interest in the bedroom department. She visited her GP, who advised her to make sure that when her husband returned from work she should make sure that he was instantly aroused and reminded of her needs and availability.
Before her husband was due to return home that night she stripped naked, and as he was about to put his key in the door she did a handstand against the door jamb, legs akimbo (the sight that greeted him being that in your picture.)
On opening the door he exclaimed "Blimey Vera! Comb your hair and put your teeth in, you look a right c**t!"
Apologies to all those of a sensitive disposition . . .

To melt all snow
From deep underground to
Start yet another adventure

A fiiting eulogy for one of our great eccentrics. Sir Patrick was obviously passionate about his subject and although he always saw himself as an "amateur" astronomer contributed greatly to the sum of cosmic knowledge; his moon maps were used by N.A.S.A. for the moon landings. His other loves were music and cricket. There is tragedy in his history too; his only love was killed in one of the blitz air raids; he would never have another relationship after this. He has been called a racist by some:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1411100/Sir-Patrick-attacked-over-racist-comments.html#
but perhaps "nationalist" would be nearer the mark. I always enjoyed his sense of fun and the ability to send himself up; showing a great enthusiasm for the many impressions and parodies of himself by various comedians.
I would like to think that something up there might be named after him in recognition of all he contributed. It says a lot that that his programme ran for so many years; an unrivalled feat, and despite this success there never seemed to be a hint of ego; many in the media could learn from that.
I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel sad at his passing - but what a legacy. Well done Isobel.
Regards,
A.E.
