Hi Ray,
I keep coming back to this in my mind. Not that I care to make comparisons against "the boys", but there are times when I can think of no better place to escape than a workshop full of tools and "projects" in various stages of completion about. In moments, when I allow myself to dream, I have such a place. Sometimes, the combination of noise with the process of creation is a form of solace for a restless mind.
..well into a great lazy Sunday, here--guess I'll have to settle for my book and a long walk later in the afternoon to keep me distracted )

Thanks Dorothy, sorry if it looks very slightly different to the first draft, had to edit slightly.
Unfortunately some people who should know better, did worse recently.
All I can say is I'm grateful for most family, all good friends and all the good people here on WOL for providing a place to have a bit of a moan about it.
I shan't carry on down this road.
Moan done, moving on.

So moved by this poem, I can hardly see to write through the tears. It touches every nerve associated with my experiences of death - far too many in recent years, as I age - and presses a deeper indentation because of its raw directness and simplicity. I feel sure I will return to it again.

Thanks Kevin, I wrote this before my fathers death A couple of weeks ago now, maybe it's kind of what he'd indirectly told me in his lifetime, I decided I would tell my boys directly in mine.

Hi John - Anthologies - yay! The copy of Ten Twentieth Century Poets that I filched from Middlesbrough High is one of my treasured possessions - having become so familiar with many of the poems for O-level (I think it was), I could not bear to part from them! It contains the poem which is, even after 50 years (gulp!) my favourite - "The Lane" by Andrew Young. * sigh * Oh - and I've just ordered "Worlds" at your recommendation! Jean x

Having spent weeks canvasing the opinions of teens and twenty somethings when I was writing newspaper copy, I was informed ad nauseum that the reason for the fall in newspaper sales and dropping news viewing numbers is "it's all lies"....what a truly devastating state of affairs. One young lady actually told me she thought the Beeb should give everyone a refund for beaming propaganda into their homes!
Enjoyed the poem..cheers

Thanks for the comments and the "likes". In my retirement, after
years of public service, I channel-hop the late evening news channels and note how similar they are with their preponderance of doom, gloom and scare stories. I wonder about the mind-set of those behind the news who direct what is shown/reported - and in
what sequence/quantity. And just who is pulling THEIR strings?

No! Of course not! "Ulterior Motif" is the mistake! It's actually "motive"! "Motif" is a pattern in art and music, while "motive" is something that motivates you! That was the error! I'd say quite the opposite of thick as a brick dear Don! You have a brilliant mind! ?

Don, good idea! That my friend is called good marketing! I could call it: "Wotif And An Ulterior Motif!" There and then you have your first error, mind you!
Thank you guys?

On the Jack and Jill thing?
I learned this one when I was a youngster.
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a roll of cheese,
Jack came down with a smile on his face and his trousers round his knees.?

Mae, firstly considering this is your second language, honestly there are many times I've thought, "Damn, she speaks this better than I do, and it's my only language."
Fear not my friend, your mastery of English is exceptional.
Now as for the poem, oh that made me smile, such a clever little verse with such a clever, cutting little message about how incredibly important it is to avoid, "The emperor's new clothes," and not lose sight of the big picture.
Grammatical errors? We all make them, but don't ever doubt your skill with what I think can be one of the most subtle, expressive and complex languages on the planet. You have a gift.

Adam, there is no risk my friend! Yes of course it's "your"! Thank you! I'm stopping by your profile my friend!
Don, what can I say! Other than "that's an awesome dictionary and I want it!" "Handstiched shocks!" There are no words on this one, put a smile in my face! Now "whateverette" is a new age as you said form of poetry, very radical ?
Devon, fear not! Don't hesitate correct me! I wish it were about commas, but it turns out I'm not a very good poet. When it comes to precision I suck! And while we are on the subject I shouldn't be allowed to type either!
I don't know if it's just me but sometimes I feel like I've forgotten the language!
Thanks all! ?

The silence I struggle with the most is the silence of no response...of ghosting....of wishing to know what another thinks or feels but being cut off from that. I think about how different that silence is from that of a boardwalk on a hot summer day that weaves through headlands on the edge of a continent at a time of day when neither breeze nor bird nor insect speaks. That kind of silence is a blessing.
Hope you don't mind if I borrow my comment and go edit it into a poem.

This did not happen overnight. Much time and effort went into it's creation. Well done.
One may sometimes feel my 'flippancy' is disrespectful. This is not my intention but to add some 'brightness' to an otherwise difficult situation.
Moaning can be cathartic
And WOL provides a place
Where we can moan to heart's content
Rhyme 'way and fill up space
Now Jason you're a good boy
You're moaned out, properly
You have agreed to now move on
And left moan space for me
How kind......
