Bang on a can?
What e're can that mean?
Dunno, I'll be damn
Now gesture and prattle
Cranking the rattle?
Sounds like the baby's
Gone entered slam battle ?

Ah Becky - before I got down to the comments your line
'Two sofas, three tellys ago' appealed very much to my 'alternate' way of expressing things. I then saw Brian thought the same way. ?

Kevin,
Thank you for your comment. I have found that absence has a way of highlighting changes. Being away for ten years and re entering British society I have noticed many different changes in various aspects of life and in particular attitudes. I don´t attribute manners or the lack thereof to any social class as that has no basis in fact. However, there seems to be a rural / urban divide on this issue. Towns are more cosomopolitan than ever before and the life style much more aggressive and faster. Whereas rural communities which are less cosmopolitan tend to be more relaxed and old habits die harder in these places. Close to where I live there is a small council housing estate the children of which are remarkably polite but I do not find their equivalent in the towns and cities. Perhaps a survey needs to be done. Thank you for raising this as confusion can result in prejudice and misinformation.
Keith

Taylor what a gem to read as I begin my day. A poem of love tinged with a delightful humour. Gnomes, well ok, but I prefer pixies or elves.
Good poem
Thanks

I'm sorry for your loss Brian. For us it was 5 years ago - she was 60 - but sometimes it still feels like yesterday.

Hi Taylor,
Your Bio. section just about exactly tracks my own approach to the poetic sensibility. Everyone should - no must - be accepted for their own individual worth.
It's really difficult, I think, to avoid the influence of others who went before us. But we should try as hard as we can to find our own voice; it's there, it just needs freedom and time.
It has taken me more than half a lifetime to find something approaching my own voice (I'm starting to get there, finally).
At the age of 65 (I'm not sure what the world expects from 65 year olds) we all have an infinity of contributions to humanity which never run out.
All the best,
Chris
PS: I feel the same today as I did as a 20 year old!

Becky - I love the 'two sofas three tellys' line.
And the last line is very moving for me having lost my own mother a year ago.

Hi Jon,
Great poem, I totally get it. The world appears to be going crazy and those three do seem to have left the building. I like the note of hope at the end that they will return. Although I fear, probably not in our lifetime. A well-deserved Poem of the Week.

Nicely captures the situation of one person taking on - and saying no to - a mass mentality of modern societal violence.

Hi Kevin, I really appreciate you taking the time to read Times of Trouble. It means a lot to have the feedback and support of my fellow poets. I too enjoy the poetry of others and like you do not always understand..but work through them in my own way and enjoy them very much.
The Smegroyd's Moonlight Flit..fabulously entertaining poem..isn't that so important I enjoy humorous poetry. Thank you.?

Not wanting to just jump on the bandwagon and repeat what others are saying, but I have to agree, this is one of the better poems dealing with the subject.
I particularly liked the way you expressed the futility of war, without attempting to describe a battle scene.
This was a good honest piece of writing, and the emotions came across as honest and real.
Thank you Kevin
