Thank you, Uilleam. Yes, there's a disturbing, conformist future out there, or maybe it's already here!
And my thanks to Hélène, Manish, K Lynn, Trevor, Steve, Holden and Stephen for liking this one.

Thankyou, MC. In contrast to my rather reticent weeing these days, I once managed to wazz off the side of a mackerel fishing boat that was pitching and tossing off Penzance. I'd had a few pints beforehand. It was a bit nerve-wracking holding on for dear life with one hand and gripping the boat's rail with the other.

Hi Laura,
I watched your reading of "Revelations" again today, It always gets me, lump in the throat kinda thing.
I very much admire William Blake...so this really appeals to me.
I hope you are well.

I tend to prefer "Hit and myth". All nations and cultures have their own to fall back on. Greece has been a memorable source from way back.

Sometimes, the hardest things to recognise are our own failings
and self-delusions. It can take a sudden upheaval in our lives to
bring these into sharp focus and be able to "change gears"
accordingly.

The path through life can be so hard for a variety of reasons and
at times the sheer effort towards "enduring" can be overwhelming. We should celebrate our victories over the bad
times in the belief that good times are waiting just around the corner.

"Dryly" humorous. Read early in my day and provided a welcome

pee in public places with certain past contributions from you on WOL in mind!

Helene - having family in the USA...the result of a WW2 pairing

So a villanelle could be the triple salchow of poetry, and a sonnet an inward somersault with twist? All in the pursuit of excellence. Enjoyed this one Hélène.

The dad in this poem sounds like a brave pioneer in the field of emotional excavation that unfolds as a boy and man faces the harsh realities of life and ultimately is embraced and uplifted by love and compassion for others. A well-written, important poem, John.

I find both MC's poem and Steve's responsive comment poem interesting.
Here's a thought. Take the best from each "--ism"; put it in a blender with a heavy dose of common sense and a generous dollop of kindness; add large amounts of democracy; and create a political system that balances individual freedom and the common good as best we can. (btw, here in the USA, I can't resist saying "Go Kamala!!)

What to make of capitalism – the rich man’s game
Where the only thing that trickles down is blame
And the gentry have a laugh but it’s a shame
That equality is something they defame
A question for the supporter:
Do you like their shit in your water?

My journey might have no destination,
But that doesn't give me hesitations,
I've been on some long trecks, Manish, and those words remind me of what some might regard as a bit of a cliché: that it's not always the destination that counts, but the way we undertake the journey.

One would have thought that he would have done the necessary R n D before launching his product. Short-arse that I am, I’m now forced to carry one of those little plastic fold-up stools to reach the darn thing; I don’t half get some funny looks in the pub and especially at Lancaster services…I shudder to think how the ladies fare...many a Marilyn Monroe moment I suppose😕

Thanks Uilleam for your interest. Without resorting to google I can't be too clear on the accountability, but I don't think anyone was imprisoned or even fined, but some rules were updated to avoid similar tragedies. Often the case after the event.

As that great line from a "Dirty Harry" movie tells us: We have to
adjust to our maladjustments! Advancing years ain't for sissies!
I always loved getting about on my bike until a sudden front-tyre
blow-out hurled me sideways on to the road and supplied lumbar
spinal stenosis and atrial fibrillation (look them up). Cycling, like long distance truck driving, has also been viewed as a cause of
prostate problems. Don't you just love the fixation on fitness
so beloved of today's medicos? Remember a certain Dr. Michael
(TV) Mosley? Old Mother Nature is unpredictable at best!
Carpe diem and hope to save NHS money along the way.

Many thanks, Graham and Greg. I still try to give it a bit of work, Graham. I bike 10-20 miles most days (Having said that, it was biking caused me to have faints in the first place!).
If this had been America, Greg, they might as well have left me at the roadside - I couldn’t have afforded the treatment.
My only complaint is that the operation seems to have tarnished my nightingale singing voice!
