What a vivid tale told in a beautiful way, the rhythm and rhyme was amazing.
To be street smart is an incredible gift I might add,
If I was just book smart I doubt very much id still be alive today.
Their a lessons to be learnt during many stages of life.
The youngest stages hold the most power I beleive.
Great job writing this spectacular piece.
I look forward to the rest of your work.
and welcome to WOL ?

It is the duty (and it's expected) of the young to rebel against the
"old order". Sometimes, something good comes but with it the
dangerous exhilaration of uncontrolled behaviour (called "letting the
genie out of the bottle"), and the last line in this blog has its ring of
truth. Youth has to have an old head on young shoulders if it is to
have any real value in the long term.

Apologies for my late response folks.
Your lines are rather good too Vautaw. Nice to be appreciated !
Dorothy that is a great compliment. I started it with a sort of warning, as I wanted an edge. Often the wooing of ladies is a sort of game, and not always honourable. Thanks!
Thanks Rachel for the link which I enjoyed, as it was so robust and the guy at the wrong end of the experience altogether. My stuff is hardly ever straightforward, and this almost seems like a slap on the wrist. so thanks for looking in.
Thanks Erin for the interest! I think an opening line should be strong. Although I don't think this is suitable for a valentine's card!
Thanks of course for your likes: Frances, Keith, Jennifer, Jon, Anya and Jason.

I love this poem, you have created a vivid picture that many will relate to.
You have even managed to make the boyhood voices echo down the years.
It is a joy to read and re-read.

How ridiculous was the 80's advert for lady's body spray which had spellbound blokes chasing sweet smelling girls with bouquets. "When a complete stranger buys you flowers you know it's ... Mischief"

dk you did forget
To tell us 'bout the ring
You need to rob a jeweler's shop
Can't 'ford this pretty thing
Your wife-to-be she said
"Do this and I'll get thee
A quick divorce on church steps
If you do this to me"
So what will I say happened?
To save your wedding day?
Of course, the ring you borrowed
So what more can I say?
He will keep writing poems
Attracting my response
I cannot help my flippancy
And rhyming nonchalance ?

Brian - You state that pebble after pebble after pebble produces an unwanted cumulative effect. Where did you get this strange idea from? It can also produce wanted cumulative effects the last I heard.

Hi Richard
A great Poem and a vivid description of a hard past for many manual workers with nods to religious obligations for many, the actual physical place now becoming the modern day kingdom of the dragonfly, the exploits of the past now just memories.

Hi Kate, what I liked in this poem was the idea of how most people are not interested in the wonders of Nature (which are freely given) and pass on by completely oblivious. Very thoughtful poem, well done.

I love this - it is such an important message and you have achieved it without accusations or pomposity.
This poem is a gentle reminder of our reponsibilities to those we don't know.
A clumsy word could devastate a sensitive soul or inflame a defensive one.
'STORIES UNTOLD' should be prominantly displayed in every school and public place for all to see.

Don,
No apologies are needed as it is the responsibility of poets to be forthright, to be the voice of dissent and tidal waves can be very effective in achieving this. Send us a few tsunamis.
