Liked this one Stephen! My uncle worked 35+ years in a steel mill and is still going strong - about 85 years old. Gotta be something in the genes...

Not sure I’ve explained this properly, Stephen and Paul. I’m not suggesting men are wandering around Morrison’s with their todgers hanging over their trolleys. Although I am told some of the old ladies have been seen wearing their bras under their baps.

Hmm - If you have the power to reinvent the meaning of destiny then you have the power to invent a whole new word. It seems like you are really describing Dreams rather than Destiny, but you are so determined that they each should become the other... it made me think.. 'Determination is what changes dreams into destiny'

Thanks Elizabeth, Branwell, Stephen. Anmolpreet and Stephen G. for the like and comment. Napoli made him but also broke him, perhaps. If he had gone to a stricter team in the north, like Inter, Juventus or Milan, they wouldn't have allowed him to do what he did, and perhaps his love of the game might have obliged him to avoid excesses.

Delicately written, Ray. We had a family lockdown funeral recently. Four different people read poems. It was like an open-mic, in a good way.

A widower neighbour is eighty-four and has just lost his second daughter suddenly. There are no words that one can say. It is like abandonment. Us long time marrieds (50 years next year) fear losing a partner the most.

Thanks Paul for your kind comment, and Aviva you are quite right of course, that is really the point of the whole piece, i.e. if you want friends like that you have to be a friend like that, good old reciprocity. And I wasn't suggesting that having a friend like this makes you a good person, but rather that being a friend like this makes you a good person, at least as far as your friends are concerned. And not having a friend like this yet doesn't mean you're not a good person, it just means you haven't found each other yet. I'm 52 years old and I have two friends like this, I met the first in my early twenties and the last in my late twenties and I'm deeply grateful for both of them. The underlying implication is that these are the kind of people that really matter to us all, so it's also the kind of friend we should strive to be, and I do so love an implication. ?
Thanks Aviva, I really enjoyed that question. ❤❤

My only point with this poem was
that so-called "Diversity"
does not allow for different opinions
in today's "WOKE" culture.
You either say the right words or think the right thoughts
or you get Doxed or Fired or Looted.
How is that Diverse?

Thanks for sharing Nicola! This poem is specifically about my challenging relationship with my father, rather than that of a couple.
Maybe this wasn't conveyed well in the body of the poem. Will give this some thought though - be well!
