Picking off the fruit then choking out the limb. Descriptive perfection of the muffling silence that lives on one side of the coin, and on the other the pensive, patient expectant silence of those listening for a pin drop or the penny to fall.
I don't think there's ever been a time that we were good or bad, but there might come a time where we are collectively and individually intelligent enough to recognise each for what it is.
True, things are more convoluted now but then for me, the silence is where I'd consider the facts and decide on a way forward.
And edits are overrated, too many is like too much salt in the soup added pinch by pinch.
Real thought provoker Rachel, loved it.

Really like the way that you've represented the constant non-stop onslaught of dire news by not using any punctuation and love the continual callbacks to a singularity as it feels like we're on the verge of tipping over the edge and falling into one.

Thanks, David and Martin, for your thoughtful comments.
There are a lot of "dead and wounded" in my past, David. But, I agree--the only way to go is forward. C'est la vie.
About the press, I'm pretty disgusted too. The sort of cherry-picking you describe, Martin, is so divisive. Our emotions are purposefully manipulated by "reporting" that continually insults our intelligence by appealing to the lowest common denominator--essentially saying that we can't be trusted to decide for ourselves given objective information.
I stopped watching and disengaged from the American political system long ago--I choose instead to try to re-orient my perspective through history with the hope that I won't be fooled so easily regarding the present.
Good day to all,
Rachel

Trying to keep track of news over a long period of time can keep one's head spinning. I try to use the recent picture of the black hole that was in the news, remember, to think about all these events being sucked into darkness and just being left with fire, rain and tears.
I am sure the audio file will help in the flow but also I tried a bit of reverb at a friend's suggestion and do not know if that ended up as a distraction rather than an enhancement.

Thanks David for reading. Having just arrived here in the last week I do not know of prattling habits but I look forward to any poetry prattles, rants on rhyming, arguments for alliteration and anything else I come across of yours. Thanks again.

Love this form Mae might have to pick your brains on the format. Really liked the subject matter. You aced it my friend, like a diamond in the rough. Ok, I'm going to stop the card puns now before I get clubbed.

I really like this, favourite line amongst many,
"Harvest too great for the skulls to thresh
Breath in ash of the unknowing grin."
I love the imagery of their imagined holiness ruined by bloodlust, but it also has great rhythm and scansion.

Thanks "Heart," it's a tricky one, to love fiercely but not blindly. Some might suggest that requires a little cynicism, I would argue it's about self respect, you know, "You're no-ones second best."
I think maybe that's the balance that might be right.

You speak a lot of truths in this poem. Your first two lines are gripping. Overall enjoyed the poem and the way it flowed. I found it hard to read and wasn't sure where to take a breath, to move on. You can read this in several ways and each giving different value. Not a bad thing. And yes it deserves to be read several times. Would find interesting to hear how you would read this. I like the simple message, wise. Thanks for sharing.

Jon,
A well written poem which will, I am sure, elicit various responses. It is also intriguing as the reader can only speculate on what form the metamorphosis was. Yet it is in the response of the people which a vehement reaction is seen, one which causes near chaos. Is it that we should plan and prepare more thoroughly or seek approval beforehand. Well written and certainly a poem to stimulate the imagination.
Thank you for this
Keith

Tom,
A poem of heated passion in a moment of time, well caught in its intensity and sensuality. Sadly blue prints become old and faded but your optimism in this well crafted poem brings hope. I enjoyed this and thank you

Thanks Adam and John for the likes. LDV was an incredible person. Being illegitimate, he couldn't become a lawyer or a doctor, but he was able to turn his hand brilliantly to almost anything. He was also probably a vegetarian. Setting the birds free is on record. Lorenzo dei Medici realised how immensely talented he was and became his first patron. Apparently he was possessed by an immense curiousity about so many fields, that he used to start working on projects, but than get distracted by other things. You probably know all this anyway!
Thanks also Tom and Jon for the likes.

Thank you Devon and Keith and Rachel and Rebecca. In my opinion, any form of what is commonly called 'original or creative writing' (whether in prose or poetry) is rarely if ever truly original. It arises from a confluence of influences - some literary (lines that we half-remember and translate into 'ours' in our heads) but more often from experience (lived moments of one sort or another) which we translate into words. The great Anglo-American poet once wrote, in 'The Sacred Wood', “Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal.”

Maybe the Bible has something to answer for. Adam arrived first
according to the Good Book so perhaps the general expression
"Man" originated with that teaching and just stayed around in its
convenient form? The agenda-trenders are always looking for
something to target these days and the current examples we are
facing are merely indicative of minds that have nothing better to do.

Humanity's sexual capabilities and interest in stretching the .limits
thereof are hardly taboo. What is possible in nature is always within
our range of comment and to concern ourselves with "giving offence"
is hardly logical - taking the legitimate view that is whatever is
possible in nature is natural...and not beyond discourse...even within
the artificially created boundaries that can be imposed for assorted
reasons. There are sexual activities that I have no wish to follow
or indulge in but the fact that some (many?) do is a matter of interest
- even education - insofar that they inform and widen knowledge about the human condition and why we act as we do In life. I suspect that JC's pay-off line was a tongue-in-cheek (as distinct
from elsewhere ?) riposte to such activities.

Believe it or not, I too am a member of WOL who is allowed to post comments on other people's work.
The sad fact is that every time I do, especially in any negative vein it is assumed to be a pre-cursor to moderation.
Be clear! If work or commentary requires moderation, the 'offender' will receive a PM alerting them to the possibility.
Equally sadly, some members of WOL cite their previous convictions like a badge of honour and would seemingly like to increase their record.
Getting back to this piece of work. My negativity concerned the fact that the writer's potentially 'serious' questions about the LGBTQ etc nomenclature was undermined by his own self-professed habit of taking a dump in ladies handbags. How low can we go?

Good heavens dear dk
You mean there are pulse stealers?
Looking out for beat beat beats
Are they like drug dealers?
Who then sell on to users
Thirsting extra beats?
Making loads of money while
Peddling in the streets?
Flippancy aside, I liked your poem. Just beware of pulse stealers.....

Adam you have experimented with an idea here and as far as I'm concerned you have excelled yourself. My first glimpse at the mass of 'garble' prompted a 'not my sort of poetry' response. Then I read Jason's comment and decided to have a closer look. I'm glad I did.
I liked the rhyming opening line, whether you meant to rhyme it I don't know. You start with the frogs and end your frustration relaxing by the fire crying for the frogs - what a fitting end, if you know what I mean.
I didn't listen to the audio. I knew what you would sound like - express train Adam......With no full stops and commas, one wonders when you caught your breath? Of course - at the end of each line........
Once again, an experiment well executed. To me.
